Decent stand of covers coming in after research trials are taken out. Still having good activity with my alley mix 👍.
Luckily my trial locations survived the high winds. That being said, could have done without the hail damage from this weekends storms. Hail damage will be an additional stressor added as well as an easier infection point for disease.
My bottle cap pile has been somewhat diminished over the years. Fellow weed science folk know my struggle 😂.

Here is another good article on the dry weather:residual herbicide interaction. Bottom line is the same. If you planned to use a residual herbicide, then use the residual herbicide.
I have been referring to Dr. Hartzler's @IowaWeeds 2021 article for the question that keeps coming up:

Reposting an article about rain and herbicide activation we wrote for the Pest and Crop a few weeks ago. Starting to get questions about this topic and there is very little rain in the forecast. extension.entm.purdue.edu/ne…

Great information and timely reminder from Dr. Sikkema. It's difficult to be too early with your POST corn herbicides, but much easier to be too late.
Although initial antagonism was apparent with some of these combinations, termination has mostly occurred but time to kill was greatly increased. Same plots 23 days later

Friendly reminder that if your corn looks like this you shouldn’t be waiting to spray your products with V2 application cutoffs. It can arrive FAST!
Trivolt showing off the reachback activity from isoxaflutole after these heavy rains. Although dry conditions gave the ipomea a chance at emergence, reactivation finished the job on the little guy in the corner and is working in his big brother. Otherwise plots are super clean!
Beautiful morning to mix up some final pre emergence herbicide treatments I will be applying today. I am anticipating a good activating rainfall over the weekend…I hope…
The end is in sight for 2023 herbicide protocols for central illinois. Just a few more national protocols then on to regional demo work!
PSA: made a quick bacon sandwich in between plot planting. No mayo in fridge, went out on a limb with chick-fil- A sauce….wooo-buddy I found something. Just trying to bring light to the world 😂
with these winds it has become plot plant during the day, stake flag and spray pres at night kinda weather
