On April 8, 2026, journalist Suzan Khalil, a reporter and presenter for pro-Hezbollah Al-Manar TV and @alnourradio, was killed in an Israeli air strike that targeted a building in the town of #Kaifun, in the Mount #Lebanon Governorate, about 26 kilometers (16 miles) from #Beirut. The strike came amid an escalation in Israeli bombardment of Lebanon, hours after a ceasefire between Iran, Israel, and the U.S. was announced. Israel said it would continue strikes in Lebanon. @pressfreedom @CPJMENA To see all the portraits of journalists killed in Lebanon: channeldraw.org/2026/03/31/p…

We live in challenging times. In country after country, authoritarian leaders are gaining ground. Democracy is being pushed back and freedom of expression can no longer be taken for granted in many places. The erosion often begins with restrictions on media freedom. newssafety.org/news/media-fr…

“Journalists are being killed at a pace and scale that should shock the conscience of the world. These are not isolated tragedies; they reflect a systematic failure to uphold the most basic protections owed to civilian journalists under international law,” said CPJ Regional Director Sara Qudah “CPJ has consistently warned that without accountability, these attacks will continue to escalate, emboldening those who seek to silence independent reporting through violence.” cpj.org/2026/04/israel-kills…

The abduction of American freelance journalist Shelly Kittleson in #Baghdad brings back into sharp focus an increasingly urgent and uncomfortable truth: in some parts of the world, reporting the story has become almost indistinguishable from the risk of disappearing. Read more: channeldraw.org/2026/04/01/s… On Tuesday, in the Iraqi capital, @shellykittleson was kidnapped under still unclear circumstances. According to #Iraq’s Interior Ministry, security forces immediately launched an operation based on what it described as “precise intelligence,” intercepting one of the vehicles believed to belong to the kidnappers. The car overturned as it attempted to flee. Kittleson was not inside. Local reports place the abduction near the Baghdad Hotel on Saadoun Street—a central, busy area, crossed daily by civilians, workers, and journalists. That detail matters. It signals something deeper: nowhere is truly safe. @AlMonitor @pressfreedom @FreedomofPress @AlArabiya_Eng @haider_mossawy @alexplitsas
