If you don't know me, I'm Sam, for years, I was a prisoner of two extremes: total void or self-destructive grind, fueled by a hunger to prove my worth.
6 years ago, it all collapsed.
This is the story I've buried until now (link in comment)👇
I couldn’t sleep anymore because I had what they call “sleep performance anxiety”,
Which sounds crazy in itself, I’d spend the whoooole morning ruminating,
(o) “Were there too many screens? Maybe I ate too much?”
When deep down it made no sense,
But my brain was completely convinced of it..
I don’t know if it’s necessarily your case (I’m just laying out the phenomenon from experience),
But if you get into a mood where you focus too much on your sleep, you’re gonna make it sacred as a performance zone without even meaning to, where you absolutely need 7 to 8h of sleep to be, to do..
And that can bring a huge amount of anxiety and inevitably more sleep problems, a seriously vicious circle..
So you gotta do everything in your environment to set it up, obviously…
Without guilt or trying to force yourself to sleep: good behaviors and habits, and detachment from the possibility of having a bad night and its potential effects on your productivity that day.
The weird thing is that I started sleeping worse from the moment I understood how important it was, because before, a bad night was simply a bad night, and without even realizing it I’d gone from “I’m going to bed” to “I have to sleep”..

So you focus too much on your sleep and you end up making it sacred as a performance zone, to the point of monitoring whether you’re letting go (yep, that’s where I was at..), and those 7 to 8h you need to be, to do, become the reflection of who you are..

I was the first one ruminating, overanalyzing and overinterpreting the whole system, and it made me even more vulnerable, because fear is the reflection of what your brain interprets, and it always imagines the worst, “if I slept badly, how am I gonna react?”

Really, you try to reassure yourself by collecting info when that collecting itself grows the space your sleep takes up in your attention, and at night you go back to the bed where you slept badly, a seriously vicious circle..

So you gotta do everything in your environment to set it up, without forcing yourself to sleep, with good habits and detachment from a bad night, and honestly, it applies to every area of life…
By the way, I continue to share all my techniques for improving your focus and creating an environment that helps you feel healthy and energized, along with my experience working with isolated solopreneurs who want to perform well without developing a toxic relationship with their metrics:

The real problem I see with overthinking in most people is that they struggle to consider that they are the source of their own problem…
When you overthink, you create scenarios.
You try to barricade yourself against every unforeseen event, against every external element that might eventually put obstacles in your way.
If we take a bit of distance, we notice that the problem is the very relationship the person has with the fact of having to deal with uncertainty, the unexpected, volatility.
With the doubt that generates this feeling of powerlessness, this negative view of life and of opportunities.
I think the role that people who over-analyze must embody today is that of consideration.
Not of over-control over everything that might happen to you.
Consideration of the fact that their perception is perhaps biased.
That it was built on beliefs, on past failures, on difficulties they have absorbed in their life.
On an environment too, which pushed them to make choices or to barricade themselves.
It is this whole system that has maintained and developed their ability to barricade themselves.
The responsibility they must take is to consider that all of this exists.
That none of this happened by chance.
That it is not an integral part of their personality, or at least that they can change it.
Rather than simply blaming the external element that might go wrong.

The brain loves to spatialize and develop connections in an arborescent (non-linear) way.
And yet we learn to think on notebooks with lines and margins.
And we develop and create all of our projects on two-dimensional screens packed with blue light.
Start mindmapping to elevate your brain abilities:
Overthinking acts like an assassin of your reality.
It generates thousands of catastrophic scenarios, drains your energy, and weaves you a tailor-made life inside a very narrow frame, where you’ll never face the unexpected, risk, or uncertainty, so fulfillment, meaning, and success inevitably can’t materialize..
It’s an annihilation of the soul.
You need to be flexibility maxing if you want an ELITE competitive advantage in all modalities of life.
Metabolic flexibility aka the ability to burn carbs and fats to switch efficiently between fuel sources depending on availability and demand.
Intellectual flexibility, the ability to change your beliefs when new evidence contradicts your existing model.
Physical flexibility, the ability to adapt to different kinds of physical demands, short distance sprints, long distance running, mobility across multiple ranges of motion, strength at different joint angles.
Psychological flexibility, the ability to adapt your behaviour without becoming psychologically attached to one response, to regulate emotional reactions, tolerate uncertainty, change strategies when circumstances change
And maintaining your direction without becoming rigid.
Never met a man who had this amount of flexibility that didn't win in everything he pursued.
Cheat code pour accueillir chaleureusement le sens et l’épanouissement dans sa vie:
Ça tiens en 1 mot:

More quality time.
More obsessive work.
More play in everything we create.
More healthy, energizing environments.
More social connection.
More of the unexpected.
More uncertainty.
More volatility.
