We ♥️ saving the bees. But keeping honey bees will not help the 3,600 bee species native to North America. In fact, it might do the opposite. The best solution to bee declines is to address underlying causes like habitat loss. Flowers can support all bees!

My latest storymap features Soft Landings, a concept developed by Leslie Pilgrim and me. This concept builds upon @DLNarango's research on leps and host plants.
Soft Landings are diverse native plantings under the dripline of keystone native trees.

Nice! @TKDano in @washingtonpost. You can already see the hate coming in the comments, but all written based in fact. Honey bees are a threat to native pollinators - period. Interested in 🐝 conservation? Build habitat, don't buy bees - of ANY kind!

True to its name, the reclusive Hermit Thrush typically keeps a low profile in dense forest undergrowth. But this widespread species is migratory and must pass through urban areas to get to its nonbreeding grounds. Window collisions are all too frequent.

Before you decide to have your yard sprayed for mosquitoes this summer, think about the birds. Research shows that pesticides used in mosquito spraying kill many pollinators and other non-target insects that bird parents need to feed their young.
