"Mothership Connection: The Women of Parliament-Funkadelic" dropped last September. An oral history that expands the story behind America's greatest funk band. For POW, Jack Riedy spoke to author Seth Neblett, the son of P-Funk vocalist Mallia Franklin. "I just want to convey the importance of these women’s stories. They have been overlooked for 45, almost 50 years. They were overlooked in the inductions of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the Grammys. More than anything else I want to cement my mother’s legacy. If my mother had never brought Bootsy Collins, brought Junie Morrison who produced “One Nation Under a Groove” and “(Not Just) Knee Deep” and “Aqua Boogie,” if she never brought in David Lee Spradley who did the music for “Atomic Dog,” if she never stood in the studio when they were recording “Atomic Dog” and started panting like a dog, if she had never introduced Dr. Dre to Roger Troutman…outside of being a singer, she made moves that changed popular music. Because she was a woman, because she wasn’t famous, she wasn’t acknowledged. And I’m here to right that wrong. I think what this book did for me was maybe learn to appreciate her more." passionweiss.com/2026/03/05/…
