The roles reverse again, and now ECMWF is back at predicting a Polar Vortex wind reversal and an earliest Stratospheric Warming event on record, while GFS pulls back just above a reversal. This back-and-forth is likely to go on for a few more runs, since the ensembles are also starting to converge just above the reversal, signaling a very borderline situation. These live maps are all found in my Polar Vortex hub, link in the comments below. 👇 It is clear that we are going to observe the strongest Polar Vortex disruption in the modern records, and a reversal or not feels more like a technicality at this point. Bottoming out at -1 or 1 is not really a game changer, as its about the event and the drop itself. We can start talking and tracking impacts once the event progress is more or less settled across different models.

to all #weaher fans here on my X the ideas to #ssw signs needs to watch closely .... we all know that of course weather follows its own way values on how zonal will be changes from day to day its of course very interesting dont think #winter is Automatically a result

Para animar esto un poco, son varios miembros del ECMWF los que ven la combinación de frentes atlánticos + algún episodio de tormentas, con estos mapas estamos todos contentos. Es ciencia ficción pura pero bueno, por ir subiendo algo entretenido...😂

📡🚨November SSW Watch | A Developing Stratosphere–Troposphere Coupling Signal? 🌍 With conflicting outlooks and considerable uncertainty circulating online about a possible November Sudden Stratospheric Warming (SSW), I examined 20 structural analogs for November, comparing the first and second decades ( 1-11 November Vs. 11-20 November ) to track the evolution of the stratosphere and its potential influence on the troposphere. The aim is to monitor for structural changes between 1st and 2nd November decades in light of a possible SSW event . 🔹 First Cadence 1-11 November | Stratospheric Warming and Vortex Disturbance The 10 hPa temperature composite shows pronounced positive anomalies, locally reaching approximately +4σ to +5σ. Their asymmetric distribution suggests a possible polar-vortex displacement, accompanied by substantial wind-field disturbances. At 500 hPa, an amplified wave pattern is already evident, while the 850 hPa temperature field displays contrasting warm and cold anomalies across the Arctic and surrounding regions. The 10mb wind anomalies north to 60th parallel line show clear wind vector reversal ( flow east-to-west) during the first eleven days of November . 🔹 Second Cadence | A Dramatic Tropospheric Reorganization The second-dekad composites reveal a changed stratospheric temperature distribution, with continued circulation disturbances. However, the most striking feature is the dramatic reorganization of the 500 hPa geopotential-height anomalies. The amplified ridges and troughs across the Arctic and surrounding mid-latitudes point to a substantial change in the tropospheric wave pattern. Together with the contrasting 850 hPa temperature anomalies, this supports a potential stratosphere–troposphere coupling signal involving planetary-wave activity. The evolution may reflect continued upward wave forcing, an emerging downward influence from the disturbed stratosphere, or an interaction between both processes. The composites suggest a meaningful connection worth monitoring, although daily vertical diagnostics would be needed to establish the precise direction and timing. 🔎 What Does This Mean for November? The progression from pronounced stratospheric warming anomalies in the first November decade to a markedly reorganized tropospheric circulation in the second is an important signal in these 20 structural analogs. The next critical indicators are the evolution of the polar-vortex winds, possible zonal-wind reversal at 10 hPa and 60°N, and the vertical progression of the circulation anomalies. 📌 The Bottom Line These analogs present a compelling scenario of evolving stratospheric disturbance (SSW event) during first 10 days of November accompanied by substantial tropospheric wave-pattern changes during the second decade of November according to the analog probabilistic ensemble. This strengthens the case for monitoring a possible SSW-related development and its potential downstream effects. A major SSW is not confirmed by these composites alone, but neither should the dramatic second-decade tropospheric reorganization be dismissed. Numerical weather prediction models (ECWMF and GFS) show approximately similar patterns for first the decade of November, conducive of SSW event that is still in Broiling phase.
