California y Texas, las dos grandes economías estatales de Estados Unidos, serán gobernados por demócratas hispanos, ambos de origen mexicano. Vaya día.

Hinojosa becomes the first Latina governor of Texas. She will be the third woman to hold the office in the state's history. The last was Democrat Ann Richards.

The voters have spoken, and I want to extend my congratulations to James Talarico on his election to the U.S. Senate. I look forward to meeting him and offering my assistance with his transition as he prepares to serve Texans in the U.S. Senate.

Fun fact: my sister went to high school with @jamestalarico and was a year behind him at McNeil. She says he was a popular fella and was super nice!

Turn off the lights (if you dare) and read my spooky season submission for 2026. I typically pen a Halloween-themed story every year. This is the first where I was genuinely creeped out as I reported and wrote it. azcentral.com/story/news/tri…

Ryan Murphy, don't you dare get anywhere near La Llorona. Not after what you did to the "Murder House" and "Coven" mythos. Last night's finale killed has scarred me. I refuse to ever watch another Murphy project.
Sarah Paulson discusses the idea of playing La Llorona in a Mexico-set “Horror Story” season.

“killed” Not sure where I was going with that. But “American Horror Story,” as much as I’ve loved it for years, has little to no Latino representation. Besides, the show already touched upon the lady of the lake folk tale in “1984.”

Several years ago, a former friend who attended Ave Maria University invited me to spend a weekend there with him. He’s now married with kids in the Midwest. I sometimes wonder how surreal that weekend would have turned out because this was a small campus and I am anything but.
Founded by Domino’s Pizza founder and devout Catholic Tom Monaghan, Ave Maria in Florida, is one of the fastest-growing communities in the United States. A recently approved expansion will add 2,042 acres and allow 6,738 additional homes, bringing its total approved residential capacity to 17,738 homes.

Fatima Bosch is a white Mexican but the idea she looks foreign is ridiculous. She strongly resembles Iran Castillo, a popular Mexican actress from ’90s telenovelas. Both women have greenish hazel eyes not uncommon among many Mexicans of strong European descent. 1/
You know Inde is genuinely Mexican bc Mexicans would never crown her Ms Mexico since she doesn’t look foreign enough.

Do white Mexicans dominate mass media representation in Mexico? Yes. Just as whites dominate mass media all across most of Latin America. But national pageant culture in Mexico is different. It is a byproduct of 1940s mestizo nationalism that gave us the likes of María Félix. 7/

Did a thread on this because racial dynamics in Mexico, media visibility and representation in general and beauty pageants, especially in Latin America, are interests of mine. And helped informed this profile I did on Miss America 2022 Emma Broyles. 8/8 azcentral.com/story/news/loc…
