We conducted a secondary analysis using Peru’s 2023 hospitalization database from the Superintendencia Nacional de Salud (SUSALUD).
Our analysis found that hospitalizations due to intestinal volvulus were more frequent in high-altitude regions, with a significant positive correlation between altitude and hospitalization rates.
Excited to contribute to the growing understanding of the epidemiology of intestinal volvulus in Peru.

This is a great question because it is institution and provider dependent. At our institution we typically give 1gm of calcium gluconate with the first blood product and then replete based on the iCa. Some give it with the first unit and then after every 4th unit.
