Calling all cat lovers!
We are still looking for volunteers to enroll their cats in our study on the gut microbiome and calorie-restricted dieting. With your help we hope to uncover why some cats respond to dietary change while others do not.

A postdoc with a newborn just told me daycare in Boston is ~$30,000/year 🤯 Despite having dual incomes, the cost is so prohibitive they are considering just going into industry... I wish there was a mechanism similar to the NIH Diversity Supplement to help parents with new borns
Looks like we might have to make a last minute trip to montreal due to the storms in #halifax does anyone have any good recommendations for things to do for a short visit?

Canadian Postdoc median pay in 2020 was $52,500. Of great concern: 25% of postdocs were earning <45k. [Ref @CAPSACPP]
When I started as a Postdoc in 2020, I was paid 45k. After benefits and taxes, I wouldn't have been able to afford to rent a 1BR apt in Toronto.

It’s a great feeling when you sit there stuck on some code and then come back to it an hour later and magically solve it with a few one liners (:
Is RNAmmer still the best tool for pulling 16S sequences from MAGs? anyone have any experience with other tools
