Some criticism of this being beneath a PM totally misses the fact that this isnāt just an everyday annoyance, the behaviour of enforcement companies is seen as emblematic of a rigged/exploitative system and is entirely the sort of cause of misery people want a govt to tackle.

We're deeply concerned that the Shadow Culture Secretary appears to be arguing for an end to almost all public investment in arts & culture.
A cut of this magnitude would be unprecedented and catastrophic. We've requested a full explanation of the numbers and a serious rethink.
We will cut the arts & culture budget by £1bn in order to fund 50,000 prison places. Keeping rapists and other dangerous offenders locked up is a priority for the @Conservatives. We will always put community safety first.
@RichmoMusic If you need help understanding the numbers, please donāt hesitate to get in touch. Always happy to talk you through.

NEW: France has dropped its opposition to the UK being included in the EUās āMade in Europeā legislation as long as the British government aligns with the blocās position over tariffs on Chinese EVs.
In a breakthrough for Andy Burnham, Paris on Thursday came round to backing Germany, which has always supported the UKās calls to be designated European for the purposes of the Industrial Accelerator Act.
The legislation, which is in its draft stage, is designed to protect domestic manufacturing from cheap Chinese competition.
According to a joint Franco-German paper seen by the Guardian, the two countries are now proposing that for the car industry specifically the UK could be included in the "Made in Europe" scheme. @lisaocarroll reports

I wasnāt added. I feel left out.
I wonāt go out qaluit-ly.
In today's Times diary... Labour tongues were wagging yesterday over a mysterious WhatsApp group set up by MP Alison Hume called "I'm not a qaluit".
There were more than 100 messages in 20 minutes. Alex Ballinger chimed in: "Speak for yourself, Alison, I'm a qaluit."
After whips got in touch out of concerns she'd been hacked, she quickly clarified that wasn't the case.
Congratulations Baroness Campbell - amazing š
Wonderful to hear Baroness Campbell's AI-created voice @UKHouseofLords for the first time; a first for @UKParliament & among the first in any legislature worldwide.
More than a tech milestone, it's very much HER voice, a powerful one for a leading disability rights campaignerš£

Total support for this. There are plenty of things where we have healthy disagreement, but there are some core values - the things that define us as a country - that are under attack and unity is strength.
The strongest section of Kemi Badenoch's speech so far:
"To those who say āunite the rightā... we are not uniting with THAT. I donāt want to live in a country run by people who threaten journalists, call veterans traitors and debate whether my mixed-race children are English.
"I donāt want to explain to my son, when weāre watching our brilliant England team play football, that some people donāt think our black players are English.
"I remember back in the day when Ian Wright and John Barnes were playing - nobody was questioning whether they were English. We certainly didnāt have sitting MPs questioning whether they were English.
"We must not let these people take us backwards. That is not the country we are. I donāt know whether youāve noticed, but I am black. I am British. Iām proud of my country, Iām proud of our history."
Good work here to break the business model of this vile people smuggling trade.
Much more to do š
NCA and @ukhomeoffice Border Force officers have seized 25 inflatable boats that were destined to be shipped to cross-Channel people smugglers.

We absolutely need to do this as soon as possible to protect domestic automotive manufacturing as well as to help ensure we can stop Made in Europe excluding British manufacturers
Exclusive:
Britain is preparing to follow the EU and impose import taxes on Chinese electric cars in a move that will push up prices on the forecourt but protect UK manufacturers
The government is drawing up a package of potential tariffs to be imposed on Chinese car imports amid concerns that Beijing is ādumpingā state-subsidised vehicles into the UK
The new import charges have been a key demand from Brussels, which is concerned that Britain has become a backdoor for Chinese exports into the wider European market
The EU has made clear to ministers that the UK must put tariffs on Chinese vehicles or face being cut out from the āMade in Europeā scheme, which would make exports by British carmakers to their largest markets uncompetitive
Britainās participation in Made in Europe has been a sticking point before the UK-EU summit between Andy Burnham and the blocās leaders next month
Nearly a quarter of cars sold in the UK this September were Chinese models. They now account for five of the top 25 brands. The Jaecoo 7 sold nearly 11,000 vehicles and was the top monthly seller for a Chinese marque
The UK has been an outlier in choosing not to impose import taxes on Chinese vehicles. The US has shut them out almost entirely and the EU imposed duties of up to 45 per cent in 2024
There have been particular concerns about Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), which has a large market in China and would potentially be subject to retaliatory levies
However, the government believes t the ābalance has shiftedā given the potential economic impact of the Made in Europe scheme

Reaction from other parties on social care shows why so many politicians before Andy have avoided it
They have gone straight to partisan politics over thinking about the long-term solutions our constituents need
This does a disservice to all those Iāve met who need us to act
