Then build a facility that is fit for care. The question specifically says St. Paulβs βor another similar site.β Arguing over the building completely misses the point: what do we do with someone who has overdosed twice in 24 hours and remains at serious risk of dying? Do we really just send them back out and hope the third overdose isnβt fatal? π€¦π»ββοΈ
"Involuntary care is serious medicine. If we take away someone's liberty to treat them, we owe them a building that's fit for care. St. Paul's Hospital is not one of them."

Thank you to all the riders taking part in this memorial ride for honouring and remembering the police and peace officers who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to others.
Today, they ride to remember.
The BC Law Enforcement Ride to Remember honours officers who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their communities. This morning, 60 law enforcement officers from across the province departed from VPD headquarters to begin a 400-kilometre, three-day cycling journey.
They will ride through the Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island, finishing in Victoria on Saturday when they arrive at the B.C. Law Enforcement Memorial Bastion at the Legislature. The riders and support crew will then participate in the BC Law Enforcement Memorial Service on Sunday.
Safe travels to the 14 VPD members, as well as all the riders and volunteers supporting them along the way.
We remember the fallen, support their families, and stand together in their honour.

This isnβt just a Calgary problem. Policing across Canada is becoming more complex, more demanding and more resource-intensive. Governments need to recognize that reality: public safety requires sustained investment in the people doing the job.

Thereβs a lot of talk about crime numbers in Vancouver right now, & some confusion in the media. Itβs important to get the facts.
Violent, property & overall crime in Vancouver have all dropped since 2002.

Beyond the crime rates, we also know that Vancouverβs overall Crime Severity Index (CSI) reached an all-time low in 2025:
β’Vancouver in 2025 had record-low Overall CSI and Non-Violent CSI scores β the lowest on record since Statistics Canada started keeping track in 1998.
β’The only reason Vancouver in 2025 didnβt also have a record-low Violent CSI score is the Lapu-Lapu tragedy (11 second-degree murder charges).
Investment in public safety works. #ContextMatters

If you're looking for a career with purpose, challenge, and opportunity, we want to hear from you. Join our team. Serve your community. Build your future. #FirstClass @VPDRecruiting #JoinVPD
Today marks the beginning of a new chapter for the Vancouver Police Department and the city we serve.
For the first time since 1978, the #VPD will be able to fully develop the next generation of police officers from the day they join us through graduation and into their careers.
Our new Police Academy will provide specialized, hands-on training to prepare recruits for the complex challenges of modern policing, including mental health and addictions, vulnerable populations, violent and organized crime, cybercrime, and public disorder. It allows us to develop recruits using the experience of Vancouver Police officers and to integrate classroom learning with realistic scenarios based on the challenges our members face every day.
We want our officers to meetβand exceedβprovincial standards and be ready to serve Vancouver from their very first day on the job.
The success of this Academy wonβt be measured by the facility. It will be measured by the quality of the officers who graduate from it.
