This weekend 5 @Tesla enthusiasts embarked on a competition to put their Tesla Home energy systems to the test and see how long they could go without the grid. They organized and launched this completely on their own.
Their goal is to see how long they can go without compromising on their usual energy usage and behaviors. The systems range from smaller to bigger, include @teslaenergy Powerwall, Powershare from their vehicles, and solar. They’re located in: California, Idaho, Canada, Illinois, and Texas and these adventurers have already passed 41 hours.
Follow along and see how these Tesla Home energy systems perform in the real world.

Yes, Powershare is incredible! That was our first session ever and I am so happy! Thank you @James_Powerwall @AlexGuichet @teslaenergy
Follow along as @ericdmann and team go off grid to compete for longest without a connection - glory and bragging rights await

Headed into night #1 of our off-grid challenge. 89% on the powerwall, I don’t expect that I’ll need to use powershare tonight, but it’s there if I do! Hopefully some sun tomorrow to keep us rolling through!
Tomorrow at 2:30 PM PT, we pull the plug on the grid. No end date.
Just the sun, @Tesla Powerwall + Powershare, and stubbornness to see how long we can last. ☀️🔋
We built a live leaderboard, so you can watch every minute of it.

My setup:
☀️ 14 kW solar
🔋 2 Powerwalls (27 kWh)
⚡ Cybertruck with Powershare @teslaenergy
🚙 Model Y
Late October here in Idaho means short days, gray skies, and cold nights.
Going head to head with @PatchesHQ and @JoshuaThePilot.
Cool!

Today at 4:30 PM CT, we pull the plug. ⚡️ Here's what's running the house:
🌡️ Bosch 3-ton heat pump (heating + cooling)
🚿 Heat pump water heater
🍳 Gas stove + gas dryer
🔥 Gas furnace backup if things get tight (~500W blower vs 2.5kW+ heat pump)
💡 All LED lighting + air purifiers in every room
🍽️ Microwave, air fryer, dishwasher
🐠 6 fish, 2 snails, a frog, and 2 bulldogs who don't care about kWh 😅
📊 Normal usage: 20–25 kWh/day
Charging everything to 100% before the clock starts. 🔋
What do you think breaks us first: cloudy days or cold nights? 👇

Tomorrow at 4:30 PM CT, my home is unplugging from the grid. No end date. ⚡️
✈️ I'm an airline pilot, gone 3–4 days at a time, so my wife holds down the fort with our 6-year-old, 2 bulldogs, and a tank full of fish.
My setup:
☀️ 20.3kW solar (50 panels)
🔋 1 Powerwall 3 + 3 Powerwall 3 expansions (54 kWh)
⚡ Cybertruck with Powershare (110 kWh usable, 10% limit)
🔌 Total storage: 164 kWh
🚙 2026 Model Y for my commute
Part of a team of Tesla owners taking on the challenge with @ericdmann and @PatchesHQ 👊

How Long Can a Home Run on Solar and Tesla Powerwall(s)/Powershare Alone?
Starting today 2:30PM PT, participants disconnect from the grid and operate solely on solar production and Powerwall/Powershare storage.
The longest duration off-grid wins bragging rights!

We start tomorrow at 2:30pm PT.
Tomorrow, my home goes off-grid too.
We’ll run on whatever the sun gives us, then the Cybertruck takes over when the Powerwalls get low.
My setup:
☀️ 8.4kW solar array
🔋 1 PW 3 + 1 PW 3 Expansion
📐 Cybertruck with Powershare
I have the smallest array of the three, but let’s see how long we can last even while charging my wife’s car.
@JoshuaThePilot @ericdmann
Almost time to put Powershare on display.
If you’re a @teslaenergy Powerwall owner join the competition for bragging rights and glory.

Look this thing had some neat specs, but what the people really want to know is whether it has Powershare. @teslaenergy

It was great hosting industry leaders at Giga Texas and speaking about the past and future of Virtual Power Plants at Flex Summit this week!
VPPs are a flexible and cost-effective solution to support our grid. With nearly 2.5 GW of Powerwalls in VPP programs today, and V2G rolling out, we are just getting started...
And all of these as of Oct. 1 not only drive you, but also back up your house i a power outage with Powershare.
The @Tesla Model Y is dominating the U.S. EV market.
Tesla has sold 262,491 units YTD, only a 1% YoY decline despite zero federal EV incentives which ended in Q3 2025.
The Model Y accounts for a THIRD of all U.S. EV sales. 👑

Yes. A lot of people don’t know you can do that. Would be much better than running a generator that’s for sure.

Anyone with a Cybertruck and gateway is powering their entire house for a couple days off the truck.
Then, they charge it up at a Supercharger and go back home for a couple more days. They don't need a whole house charger for $15,000.
Very attractive in FL. Tempted.
