March has been an exceptionally memorable month launching my research work to the world on the cover of Science Signaling. Thank you to Biotech TV for featuring me on their Science Spotlight and highlighting my PhD journey as a student-athlete!
𝐁𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐌𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐬: Meet @JanicePang_, a @UofT PhD candidate who was lead author of a much discussed paper in @scisignal about using long noncoding RNAs as future therapeutic medicines.

Study suggests long non-coding RNA (#lncRNA) has potential as new class of genetic medicine, including as an anti-inflammatory drug. I talked to the scientists at University of Toronto to learn more for my story in @endpts - endpoints.news/study-suggest…

Delighted to share our lab's latest work. Thank you to my supervisor Dr. Omar F. Khan, co-authors, and funding agencies for making this research possible. I am beyond honoured to have been able to lead this study and make it my first first-author paper.
A team presents the synthesis and chemical engineering of 3 #lncRNAs to suppress inflammation in mice and in human cells—one of the first demonstrations that lncRNAs outside of cells can be deployed to affect cell biology. @OFKLab @JanicePang_ @bme_uoft scim.ag/4urlDfg
For many years, we have dismissed this segment of the genome as ‘junk’ and sidelined lncRNAs in drug development. Our study demonstrated for the first time the use of three different lncRNAs - GAPLINC, MIST and DRAIR - to treat acute inflammation.
Some exciting things brewing. Stay tuned 👀
