How are we using & what's next for #AI🤖in #SurgicalEducation🏥? Thrilled to share our article in @AmJSurgery led by my postdoc @ElifBilgic16 who started her 1st week as Prof in @MERIT_McMaster & @mac_peds this week! 🥳 Funded by @SSHRC_CRSH sciencedirect.com/science/ar… @McGillMed
Drawing on EDA, self-report, & speech content, we found that medical residents clustered into a ‘emotionally balanced, minimal arousal group” showed a higher propensity for confronting a senior medical resident (SP) behaving unprofessionally during a sim.

We found that medical residents randomly assigned to complete an anti-harassment simulation after watching an educational video on bystander interventions behaviorally outperformed those who completed the simulation before watching the video.

We examined medical residents’ emotions during simulation training & found that team leaders reported higher levels of shame 😔post-simulation compared to team members. Happiness & hopefullness 😁predicted perceptions of team performance & team mood. bpspsychub.onlinelibrary.wil…
Using machine learning (lasso) we found that human coding of self- and socially-shared regulation strategies predicted medical residents electrodermal activation (EDA) during a medical simulation.

We developed an animated story-driven media literacy video to improve media credibility accuracy—it was a lot of fun! We also evaluated it, looking at credibility accuracy 🎯 & epistemic emotions

Congratulations to my doctoral candidates, Sayed Azher & Keerat Grewal on passing their PhD oral exams Friday & today! So proud of you both! 🎉🎊 A huge thank you to the oral defence committee members! Wonderful to celebrate together (with homemade cake) with SAILS Lab members.
Our new article & our first from my @SSHRC_CRSH funded research on using simulation with SP methodology & animated videos to equip medical residents with tools & experience serving as bystanders when simulated harassment occurs during a medical procedure. sciencedirect.com/science/ar…
A highlight of @SSHorg #imsh2025 was chatting with Col. @RealMalachowski , retired elite USA Air Force Thunderbirds pilot, about overcoming fears to achieve the extraordinary.
Honored to have been recognized as an emerging simulation leader by the @SSHorg & grateful for the fabulous mentorship & connections made through the Ascend Program at #imsh2025. @McGillMed @RIMUHC1

In simulated crisis resource management training, successful leaders made more frequent use of communication, organizational, & group regulation strategies & were better able to leverage their medical teams’ assets than those who did not. Our newest pub out today!
Grateful to have the chance to celebrate a wonderfully productive 2024 with my stellar graduate students this week!
Delighted to celebrate & share success stories & metrics about the cutting-edge research taking place @McGillMed

April was a big month! My first doctoral students, Dr Ahn (primary) & Dr @mendesbotelho (co) did marvelous jobs. Excited for their bright academic futures in simulation, & health professions education🎉🥳🍾
Loving @Outerminds’ Turbo Kid: a Metroidvania with BMX bike-enhanced platforming, post-apocalyptic pixel art, nostalgic beats, loveably ridiculous characters, & satisfying ways to reap pixelated carnage. Proud of @DanielBeaudin3’s contributions ❤️ youtube.com/watch?v=-9GUp_wH…
