When I talk about abrupt permafrost thaw, this is what I mean. This collapsed and flooded area was not here earlier this summer. Loss of permafrost means losing the backbone of northern ecosystems. #ClimateCrisis #ClimatActionNow

canadianfieldnaturalist.ca/.… New paper shares min. # species killed in AB’s wolf strychnine program 2005–2020. Fewer wolves were killed compared with non-target animals, including 10 mammal & 4 bird species. I suspect there are even > non-target deaths & suffering caused by 1080.

Species diversity in golf courses and cemeteries inside the city are actually almost the same as forest preserves outside the city, whereas city parks have roughly half the species. Did you know we have flying squirrels in Chicago? I’ll give you one guess where you can find them.

Sad News. My beloved "doctor father" Frans de Waal passed away after a battle w/stomach cancer. I am forever grateful for his mentorship, friendship & the inspiration he so freely shared ever since we first met in the 1980s. I am sure he had many more books left to write.💔💔💔

Is this photo of Richard Owen and a moa skeleton the most unintentionally terrifying image in the history of science? Ol buddy looks like he's about to cast a fucking spell and turn us all into flightless birds.

For context, according to this paper natureconservation.pensoft.n…, one lion generation is 6 years. So that's a third of the (already much reduced range vs historic) lost in less than 20 years. XXI century conservation doing great, I see !
The latest global #lion assessment has been published by the @IUCNRedList, with input from several WildCRU members. Classified as Vulnerable, the species’ range has decreased ~36% over 3 generations, thus a similar population reduction is suspected. rb.gy/10g9gh
