The longer I’m in Scouting and the more I look around at the world, the more I suspect this could be the most important of the 12 points of the Scout Law. – at Independence, MO

And civics- which, as far as one can discern , is not taught at all. It used to be an entire year 9th grade social studies subject in every high school in the country. No wonder the Constitution can be subverted. No one knows what it is

The Amtrak waiting room at Union Station. One of those Kansas City things that’s OK but could be so much nicer with a modest effort.

Forty-nine years ago today, amid a hurricane-strength storm, the Edmund Fitzgerald sank in Canadian waters off Whitefish Point. All 29 hands were lost. Remember them and their families.

Did you know the poll workers arrived at their stations before 5 am today, will work until 7, then help pack up and finally leave at 8? Amazing people. At the three polling locations at various Res locations our members are providing meals and snacks to bless the workers. I am praying today not only for election workers but for all who are running for office, and for those who are voting. I am praying particularly for the Resurrection members running for office as they await results. I am so proud of each of you. I invite you to join me in praying this prayer we handed out to our congregation Sunday.

To fellow pastors who are leading politically diverse churches: •Some people will be upset no matter what you say or choose not to say. •Manage your own emotional functioning. •Lean on friends for support. •Listen for Jesus’s voice. •Model curiosity. You’re not alone.

I think a lot of people are actually canceling their wapo subs. It’s not like the usual round of claims. But I think the brand damage to the Post may be greater than people realize and go beyond the near term hit on subs. A big slice of America is living in a climate of ….

Uncertainty acts as a tax on the economy. Firms and households hesitate when they cannot see what the policy landscape looks like; they wait for the cloud of uncertainty lifts. Consequence of our divisive politics; it didn’t used to be like this when it came to elections. They were little more than noise in the background. Now the noise could be consequential.
There are 15 (!) mentions of election uncertainty in the latest Fed Beige Book, its report of economic anecdotes from around the country. That's up from 7 in October 2020 and 8 in October 2016. federalreserve.gov/monetaryp…

The longer the derelict @sonicdrivein sits at 35th and Noland, the more I think they should post a rail live cam there so we at least get some use out of it. Who’s with me?

Since #Bonhoeffer is trending, let me say the best way to learn about Dietrich Bonhoeffer is not from Eric Metaxas (who has been strongly rebuked by Bonhoeffer historians and Bonhoeffer’s own family) but by reading directly from Bonhoeffer himself — “The Cost of Discipleship.”
