Really excited to have this out as a follow-up to our initial discovery paper. @Saketh_Challa1 explores how CD36 variant stacks up against other known cardiomyopathy genes. @KrishnaAragam @VAORD
Among individuals of African ancestry, a common #CD36 nonsense variant was associated with higher risk of dilated #cardiomyopathy in a dose-dependent pattern, with homozygous carriers having approximately 5-fold higher risk.
In 4 US cohorts, this variant accounted for more of the dilated cardiomyopathy burden than #TTN truncating variants, indicating that current genetic frameworks may miss a major contributor in this population.

Some of the most exciting work I have had the privilege to be involved in and one of my favorite collaborations. Thanks to all the participants who made this possible. @DeptVetAffairs @VAResearch #MVP
Today in @NatureGenetics, we report the discovery of a common CD36 variant specific to individuals of African ancestry that increases risk of DCM, and may help explain the ~2x higher rate of DCM/heart failure in this population

So excited to finally be able to share this work broadly. It was an incredible team to work with and I can't wait to see what the global research community produces from this data.
I’m thrilled to share that our work from the @VAResearch is finally out in @ScienceMagazine ! We dive deep into the genetic architecture of 2,068 traits using data from the VA Million Veteran Program, comprising 635,969 Veteran.
