One thing about social media, especially Twitter, is that people here decide how they want to see you, and once they've made up their minds, almost nothing you do or say will change that perception. This is what I mean: People form an opinion of you based on a particular incident, and once that opinion is established, it becomes the lens through which they judge everything you say or do. Whenever you express an opinion, they revisit that perception of you. The quality, accuracy or reasonableness of what you've said becomes irrelevant. Their reactions are driven entirely by the opinion they've already formed about you. On the day you received help as a reward for being a good wife to your husband, by your own definition of what makes a good wife, a certain group of people who have spent years on this app propagating an entirely different idea of what a wife should be, along with those who simply believed you were undeserving of that help, decided who you were and how they would treat you on this platform. You could simply tweet, "Tomorrow is Thursday," and they'd come at you with, "How dare she say that? Does she even know yesterday was Tuesday?" Now, this isn't to suggest that every opinion you express here will make sense. Absolutely not. But anyone with a reasonable amount of common sense should understand that an opinion, however disagreeable, remains just that: an opinion. Unless it comes from someone in a position to act on it in ways that could negatively affect others, disagreement should not automatically become an excuse for vileness, personal attacks and what I can only describe as an unprecedented level of bitterness.
