Yes, good question. It’s very unlikely that the kind of Asberger associated with a smart engineer is caused by these protein-truncating variants

I partly disagree: the lie is already *selective* blank slatism. Black athletes are allowed to be considered superior, and when Jared Diamond says that people from Papua New Guinea are probably smarter than Europeans, progressives nod in agreement. It’s a form of double think

To be fair, Netanyahu says the same thing for the English, the French, etc, so I’m not sure there’s a contradiction here

Embryo selection is one of the most interesting technologies out there. If you could choose your kid’s height, would you? What about intelligence? Or more saliently, the risk of key diseases that your kid might be predisposed to? And how do we even know the tech is real? I discuss all this and more with @JonathanAnomaly , whose company @herasight is imputing polygenic risk scores for embryos based on fairly accessible inputs. The quagmire of ethical and scientific questions all this presents, I think, is ultimately tractable and offers reason for optimism

It prevents abortion: this occurs before any embryo is implanted

Many people out there have grown up thinking they can't have kids as they're so worried about their family risk of conditions like schizophrenia. That changes now. So cool.
Today we launch NeuroRisk, the first embryo test for autism and schizophrenia that looks for mutations in evolutionarily important genes. These mutations are individually rare but over 10% of people carry at least one mutation in this class.

Not abortion. This is for women who have to select an embryo blind or with information

I used NeuroRisk for genetic screening for myself, and found that I have a mutation in six3. This likely caused my brother's death shortly after birth, and gives ~25% risk of my own kids suffering the same. I'll be using this info in my embryo selection!

An important new innovation from Herasight: NeuroRisk. NeuroRisk identifies embryos carrying damaging mutations in evolutionarily conserved genes, which increase risk for autism, schizophrenia, and other disorders - finding cases missed by polygenic scores and known genes.

Fascinating! Embryo selection just keeps getting better because the predictors just keep improving all the time. Now, just a handful of mutations = a large IQ and intellectual disability gradient to select on.
