#OnMyMind: Given questionable evidence for race-based ACE inhibitor guidelines, Peter et al strongly urge global experts to reconsider their recommendations around ACE inhibitor use in Africans with #hypertension @ntobekon @JonnyPeter7 #AHAJournals ahajournals.org/doi/10.1161/…
🙏 to my cardiology colleagues @ntobekon and Mpiko Ntsekhe for co-authoring this piece challenging existing dogma. Hopefully we can contribute to addressing the evidence gaps in diverse African populations. #hypertension #ACEinhibitors ahajournals.org/doi/10.1161/…

Our latest study is live on @medrxivpreprint

We asked why some (unvaccinated) individuals remain asymptomatic after SARS-CoV-2 infection, using 3 large cohorts.
And learned a lot on HLA & role in chronic phase of infection vs. acute phase

What a moment to be at #IUIS2023 here in Cape Town! Largest immunology meeting in Africa ever 👏 @FaithOsier opens the meeting @iuis_online
Lovely to hear from valedictory colleague Dr C Du Toit about the history of #HSCT and HLA discovery in 1968. Amazing to think how far we have come with this in just over five decades! @SAImmunology

Really great to see these issues being raised @JACIInPractice They now need to be followed by increased financial support across research, clinical services and industry sectors if we are to change these usually entrenched determinants.
After a year of revisions and hardwork, I feel very proud to share our publication on 2-years of #pollen-monitoring data from seven South African cities. This is the largest modern #aerobiological sample in the history of the country and the continent. A real team effort!👏
Our growing SA pollen network is a diverse team of aerobiologists, paleoecologists, ecologists, air quality scientist and doctors (allergists and ENT) that provide data to @realpollencount and pollencount.co.za
Fantastic to highlight #Urticariaday2023 to colleagues at our allergy Congress this morning and then have an inspiring patient meeting to launch #CRUSE app for chronic urticaria disease monitor. Great steps forward to improve access to care in #SA @UrticariaDay @UCARE_4U
The ideal lecture for cross-talk between #immunologists and #allergists - Sabelo Hadebe talking about conditional mice KO of IL-4a and dissecting the impact of this receptor in different immune subsets in an #AD model #ALLSASAIS2023 @SAImmunology 👏
Wonderful to be at the official launch of icatibant in South Africa. This is the first registered on demand targeted therapy for #HAE in the country. Thanks @HAEDAY and HAE SA patient organization for the advocacy that helped to make this happened. #gamechanger for patients. 🎉👏
Anyone wanting to learn about SA allergy and immunology? Still last minute spots available to #ALLSASAIS23. Lots of great speakers - local and international in the program. Come join us! @SAImmunology @worldallergy @SAallergy
