I tweet a lot about Peyton Manning. It's probably easy to miss some of the tweets and threads, so I've compiled a number of them into one thread here for convenience:

Edge absolutely rules and this city is lucky to get to claim him as one of their own.
Edgerrin James says that he used his first NFL signing bonus to buy two rundown buildings in a drug-affected neighborhood in his hometown and turn them into a recreational center for local kids
“I mean, it’s appropriate. You know, them things you’re supposed to do. That’s your way of really giving back and helping and showing. You can help a lot of people by making one move. One move can change the structure of so many other kids. Like right now, from Immokalee, we got four guys that’s in the NFL right now, and those same four guys used to come to that same building that we opened up and that we had around. And it was actually pretty cool to actually see that, you know, they were a part of it.”
“Exactly. And that’s what it’s about. You’re showing them that it’s possible, and that’s part of my whole MO, man. Like, look, I’m going to come across as normal, and I’m going to do all the same things y’all do. So I’m showing you that it’s possible. Right now, you got to dig into it a little bit more to say, ‘Okay, what separated me from them?’ And that’s when that discipline and that hard work and really knowing what it’s going to take, or doing what it’s going to take, to get there.”
“Yeah, you got D.J. Swearinger, you got Mackensie Alexander, you got D’Ernest Johnson that played for the Cleveland Browns, and then you got the Pro Bowler, J.C., that played for the New England Patriots. You know, all four of those kids, they used to be around. They’re all out of Immokalee, and that’s what it’s about. To have kids that’s in the community that actually see you do what you do, and they follow in those footsteps.”
“I got a million names from them. They actually make you feel old. Like, they really the ones that make you feel old. And then you go back, you go through some of the pictures, and you see the kids out there doing what they were doing. Like, dang, I’ve really been around a long time. And to see J.C. go to the Pro Bowl, you’re like, man, I watched this kid from birth. But it’s a good feeling to know that you got people coming from your area that you inspired.”
You know, it seems like it would be a good idea for the owners making decisions on these things to listen to the headset communication to get a clear picture instead of relying on stuff like this.
That seems smart! I’m sure no one would have any issue with an owner doing that.
Notre Dame has played 18 ranked opponents in the regular season since the start of 2022 (the Freeman era).
That's more than Georgia (17), Ohio State (15), Miami (10), Indiana (10), BYU (10), Texas Tech (14), etc. Comparable with Alabama (21), Texas (20), etc.

As Carlie Irsay-Gordon made the decision to retain the HC and move on from the GM, it is likely she used what she heard on the headset during games to help make that determination.
My understanding is that Steichen has very good command during games. Having the owner on the headset helps him.
I think every ownership group and GM should be listening live during games, or at least recording the audio for later review. If the head coach or another staff member objects, that should be a major red flag.
When owners aren’t listening, it limits their ability to make the best possible decisions for their organization. It can become a highly political situation, with various parties trying to spin things when the owner starts asking questions.
Two of my experiences highlight these issues.
In one, ownership and the GM did not know who was actually calling the offensive plays.
In another, the HC removed a front office staff member from the headset because of significant issues with that staff member’s performance and behavior. That removal never seemed to make it to the owner. Understanding why it happened would have helped the owner make better decisions.

Couple #Colts notes:
-Ed Dodds will be leading Colts personnel department for rest of season
-Shane Steichen and football staff (outside of personnel) will report to Carlie Irsay-Gordon

I think the lack of producing any tangible results for the last five-plus seasons may have also worked against him, but who knows?
Chris Ballard is one of the genuinely good people in football. But as strange as it may sound, I think his loyalty, belief in people and kindness sometimes worked against him.
The #Colts went all-in last year after starting 8-2 by trading two 1st-round picks for Sauce Gardner, then gave a massive deal to Daniel Jones off a torn Achilles. It has not worked so far.

"The Colts' first call will be/has been to Peyton Manning." — DP shares what his source has told him.

Oooh, Dan Patrick just said that he got information that we should expect that the Colts' first call will be to Peyton Manning for advice and possibly to bring him in as the next GM.

Last month @RomeovilleKid looked at Chris Ballard's track record in Indy and compared it to other GMs with comparable tenure nytimes.com/athletic/7578915…
“Making this change during the season was a deliberate decision. Waiting would only delay the important work that needs to begin now.”

In other words, Ballard is the only GM in the last 45 years to keep their job for over a decade with less than 3 playoff appearances and less than 2 playoff wins.

Crazy stat: Colts GM Chris Ballard is one of two GMs since 1980 to keep their job for 10+ seasons while earning fewer than 3 playoff appearances.
The other is Rod Graves with the Arizona Cardinals from 2003-12. His tenure included 4 playoff wins and a trip to the Super Bowl.

Chris Ballard needs fired today so the Colts can trade assets prior to the deadline
He will go down with the ship if they don’t move on from him before
Fire him now
This is the reason to fire Ballard mid-season.
The Colts need to be approaching this as rebuild mode, but they won’t do that if there’s a GM still fighting for his job.
