The TSO, or Technology Support Office, was established in April to 'covertly disrupt and sabotage foreign technology programs considered threats to American military superiority.'
In September the Washington Sun reported that the NSA told lawmakers in classified intelligence briefings that it estimates it has spent billions of dollars 'evaluating and testing' models this year already.
In the draft S-1 leaked by the WSJ yesterday, Anthropic said that one-fifth of its $16.3 billion in revenue in the first half of 2026 came from just two customers.
Motive, means, and opportunity. I think a lot of money is being spent by agencies through Project Glasswing or channels related to it, and they have probably covertly penetrated every nation on earth to look at anything even potentially considered a threat. There is no defense against the current internal version of Mythos unless you have access to it. No foreign intelligence agency on earth has anything even close. It's actions would also almost certainly be undetectable. Assume US agencies know much more about any technological progress in China than they are letting on; given Dario's openly stated position on China, this would almost certainly be done with his approval.

Excited to share this updated primer on the Office of Technology Assessment (OTA) with @danielschuman. With new economic/cyber/bio/and other policy challenges arising from AI, now would be a great time to invest in greater science and tech capacity in Congress.

Replying to @danielschuman
That's a great question -- @ZacharyGraves and I have written at length on OTA. But, if you just want a short primer, we got you covered.

An update from Brewster Kahle on today's outage.

ALT Internet Archive ops staff were heroes last night. PHP vulnerability announced, soon saw attacks, isolated the vulnerability, used Claude to make fixes for our older php versions, used local models to run simulated attacks, deployed. reinforced WAF and other guards. Offline briefly, Back on new versions and running! Given the severity, there are heroes in many many orgs from last night. Could have been no lights, no traffic signals, real problems. Heroes. Thank you all.
Archive.org is currently offline. We are working to restore service now.

Beyond the massive sum payout, which seems to take a page out of the EC’s approach to using successful American tech companies as a piggy-bank, the hook being Cambridge Analytica, a third-party who partnered with other outside groups to violate ToS and the platforms rules.
Meta statement on today's New Mexico ruling:
“This ruling, and the Attorney General's approach to this enforcement, makes it all but impossible to do business in the state of New Mexico. At its core, this lawsuit seeks to impose a tax on speech to enforce new rules for what people can say online. We are confident we will prevail on appeal. In the meantime, Meta will continue to build a safe and free platform to connect millions of Americans, grow small businesses, and help the country maintain its competitive edge." -- C.J. Mahoney, Meta's Chief Legal Officer

American chattering classes love to hate our country’s financial services sector, but mark my words: the depth and versatility of U.S. capital markets will be our mightiest weapon in the singularity. Anti-finance sentiment, still fashionable on both left and right, is low IQ.

Mr. Elkins, patriot.
Yes, it's Saturday morning and I'm reading the transcript of a data center site hearing in Licking County, Ohio. One testimony in its entirety:
MR. ELKINS: I'm a representative for the millwrights through Central Midwest Regional Council of Carpenters. We have over 500 members who reside and work in Licking County on numerous different projects.
I'm in support of this project for Will-Power 'cause it's just going to add more money and more tax dollars back into the economy, especially on the local side. Not to mention these guys would probably love to work in their backyard.
Most guys like myself, I've traveled for, like, the last five years. I've been away from my family, watch my kids grow up through a phone. I'd like to see a lot of my buddies have that different opportunity -- be able to watch your kids and families grow up. That's it. That's all I got.

It’s been exciting to see many governors and state financial officers signing onto @VP’s anti-fraud pledge.
As @DanLips wrote for @CityJournal this summer, partnering with @USTreasury to use Do Not Pay would be a great first step for states to take.

In four years ChatGPT went from a fun toy to a tool you can use to reach and then advance the frontier of knowledge in numerous subjects. But also you have to pay for it, with either money or attention. "Enshittification!"
OpenAI continues to enshittify ChatGPT: OpenAI allows advertisers—or really anyone, I tested myself in 5 minutes—upload raw phone numbers or email addresses to OpenAI to then target those specific people and inject specific ads into their ChatGPT session 404media.co/how-chatgpt-targ…

I signed this letter calling to ease regulatory barriers on programs that will EXTERMINATE TICKS AND MOSQUITOES.
The free, independent childhoods of the mid-20th century were not random. They happened because for over 100 years before the Boomers were born, Americans waged total war on the bugs. The Rockefeller sanitary program against hookworm, the New Deal sanitary privy program, mosquito extermination laws and swamp-draining programs, TVA's malaria control program in Tennessee, new ship fumigation rules, ground-squirrel poisoning programs, and many others.
Many of these programs failed and did serious environmental damage. But many succeeded at low cost and eliminated or reduced the risk of tons of outdoor diseases and dangers.
Today, we have decades more of scientific research to help guide us towards safe and reasonable options for fighting the bugs. It couldn't come soon enough: invasive mosquito populations are exploding, spreading new diseases and making summer evenings miserable around the country; rapidly growing tick populations are spreading novel diseases that can ruin kids' lives. Hard-won victories over the bugs have been ceded for many reasons, mostly negligence driven by a failure to recognize what we had won by the 1950s and 1960s.
It's time to act. Kill the bugs once again. Make backyard in the summer safe again.

The world is waking up to the vulnerability of public key encryption.
In fact, all modern encryption rests on a foundation of unproven conjectures.
FAI's @GovindPimpale wrote on this possibility just last month.
