Israel destroyed or damaged 92% of homes in Gaza. Now it’s blocking tents from entering Gaza to shelter 2 million Palestinians from the harsh winter—as it has for 4 years in a row.
That policy killed at least 11 Palestinian children in Gaza last year by exposing them to hypothermia.

Today, while walking through the area, I came across children no older than 15 dismantling destroyed and bombed homes with their bare hands and simple hammers, when they should have been at school.
Can you imagine children this young spending their days among rubble and remnants of war, risking their lives to extract pieces of metal and sell them for a small amount of money, simply to feed their families?
They are doing exhausting and dangerous work that requires heavy machinery and specialized workers. These children have been forced to leave school and take on the responsibility of supporting their families before they have even had the chance to enjoy their childhood.
How did it come to this, that 15 year old children are living this reality? Where should children their age be instead?
Talk about these children. Write about them. Give them the attention they deserve and shine a light on what they are going through. Their stories deserve to reach the world.

+972 Magazine stands in solidarity with our friend, colleague, and contributor Abed Abou Shhadeh, who was arrested last night in Jaffa by Israeli police and the Shin Bet. No reason was provided for his arrest, and a gag order has been imposed that bars media from reporting on it.
Exactly this. Israelis need to understand that the change in attitudes to Israel is not about antisemitism; it’s not about Brits, Europeans or Americans failing to grasp realities in the Middle East. It’s because we see what Israel is doing to Palestinians - and want it to stop.
Dear Israeli friends. Here's the view from New York. Like many of you, I want nothing more than to see Netanyahu gone. But this is not nearly enough. After the huge win by the Democrats here, some people (Lapid, etc.) are posting that, basically, "if we get rid of Netanyahu and just smile more, close our mouth when we eat, and explain things better to our American friends, all be well." It will not. Until and unless there is a dramatic change in Israeli policies in Gaza and the West Bank, and a serious commitment to a Palestinian state, nothing will change. Our current policies are ugly. Lipstick won't help. You don't believe me? Just wait a couple of months.
