With the dreadful ALI G: WHO IZ I?, Sacha Baron Cohen goes full Matt Walsh, and becomes the very thing he once mocked: an oaf who doesn't understand the world no longer wants him. MGM is 2 for 2, as this ties with MELANIA for most odious film of the year. theglobeandmail.com/culture/…

The apocalyptic problem for home video enthusiasts is less that studios will decide to stop releasing films on disc but that the companies that make the disc players will cease production. These aren't record players; they're complicated to manufacture. flatpanelshd.com/news.php?su…

Are the people mad that a reviewer saw a public screening and posted a review (without breaking embargo) to RottenTomatoes the same people who put way too much stock in RottenTomatoes? – at Toronto, Ontario

Unpopular embargo opinion (depending who you ask): Once a movie screens publicly in any capacity, all bets should be off.

Netflix fired film boss Dan Lin because he could not find the balance between streaming titles and theatrical release experiments, sources say.
Lin and Greta Gerwig did clash over the upcoming "Narnia" movie, but sources say the incident is not directly what led to his firing.
On a Zoom call earlier this year, Lin is said to have been “dismissive” to Gerwig regarding the progress of the "Narnia" movie, which carries a $250 million budget. Word traveled fast around Netflix that the meeting had gone south. Soon after, Lin disappeared from the film, per sources, and film VP Doug Belgrad stepped in as the primary Netflix exec overseeing the project (until, of course, he was laid off last week).
