Those who know me, know I’m not someone who changes his preferences & behaviors lightly. As Ron Swanson said, “I regret nothing. The end.” Well, let me tell you about our new study, out from @ThePerryLab @MSKCancerCenter in @ImmunityCP @CellPressNews, which is the exception. /1
For Breast Cancer Awareness Month, @MSKCancerCenter released this wonderful piece on @anaccodo, PhD student in @ThePerryLab. Ana's story, her battle with cancer & how she has succeeded despite such dire circumstances, is truly inspiring. Please read.

Sometimes observations from different fields using different approaches & methods converge on a concept of potentially huge clinical importance.
This work, led by @Nancy_T_S in @KeshariLab w/ the macrophage work led by Ya-Ting Wang & others in @theperrylab, is such a case.
Congrats to @Nancy_T_S for pulling together and leading this great collaborative effort between our lab and @JustinPerryPhD! Here we build more on the concept of metabolic symbiosis… science.org/doi/10.1126/scia…

Congrats to Nancy and all the members of the labs who labored to get this over the finish line. I will just say, this is clearly not the end of the story, and there are a lot of potential threads left to explore and explain.
2026 Fun Fund Perry Lab BBQ. Connecticut gave us a beautiful day!

New Neurology @GreenJournal study looked at sugar rationing data in WWII England, finding that sugar rationing in utero to age 1/2 decreased risk of various diseases later in life, consistent with our previous work. tinyurl.com/3eupmvad

Just thinking through potential unintended consequences, but one could imagine this approach leading to a major loss of research talent. Despite its flaws, the current system allows a nobody like me acquire research funding by leveraging my institution's admin resources, etc.
New @WhiteHouse #science report with interesting initiatives
1. Federal funding shifts from projects and institutions toward people
2. Changes to peer review
3. Universities are no longer treated as the default home of federally funded science

Curiosity, focus, and commitment are essential qualities for an aspiring scientist. But speak to any accomplished researcher and they will tell you strong mentorship matters most of all.
That’s why, nearly 20 years ago, the @GSKGradSchool was founded through the generosity of the late Louis V. Gerstner, Jr. — a visionary leader, philanthropist, and longtime champion of science and education — to train young scientists as a critical pillar of MSK.
Hear from three graduates — Drs. Robert Bowman, Elizabeth Wasmuth, and Zhong-Min Wang who are among the 144 PhD scientists who have graduated from GSK since its founding nearly 20 years ago: bit.ly/4yHVniT
Well said by @whignewtons. This is why I agreed to run for State Senator. Not because I want power, or for financial gain. But because I believe the people of CT deserve someone of good moral character and strong principles. I want to offer them that choice.

With the sad news that actor Danny Glover is suffering from Alzheimer's Disease, I am reminded of how important support from @_BrightFocus Foundation is to find cures for this awful disease. I am grateful for their support. brightfocus.org/news/donor-s…
Excellent piece from @ATabarrok here. What is most frustrating is that the support for physical and biomedical science (and engineering) is actually broadly bipartisan, especially when you talk with people in real life (which I get to do often).
The culture war is a civil war. If we don’t end it, American science will be collateral damage.

Today, my family & I celebrated Flag Day. The World Cup has reminded me of why we celebrate this day, as our flag has meaning that we often forget. As Reagan said, "When we honor our flag, we honor what we stand for as a Nation - freedom, equality, justice, and hope." - Justin
I'm still a little shocked to have received this honor, chosen by neuroscientists I've long admired and respected.
it's a full circle moment for me, as someone who started this wild academic journey in clinical psychology and neuropsychology.
My sincere thanks to @McKnightFdn

The businesses in Norwalk and Darien, and frankly the rest of Connecticut, need a break from the policies of @senatorduff & @CTDems.

Hi everyone, I need your help! If I can raise $20,100 by August 1st, I will get $131,155 from CT through our Citizens’ Election Program. Frankly, it's the best chance I have to beat Bob Duff in November. Anything you can contribute will help.

Was proud to stand with @ryanfazio & several current and aspiring members of the CT legislature to call out the hypocrisy of @GovNedLamont. CT is drowning under the 2nd highest rate costs in the country. It is time for some good old fashioned competition in this great state!
🚨CALL FOR VETO AND AFFORDABILITY: Last week, Gov. Lamont said he was upset by possible future electricity rate increases. Well, this week the governor can do something about it.
Today, I joined my colleagues and great candidates for office to call for the governor to veto H.B. 5340.
Connecticut families like yours are already hurting under the weight of the 2nd highest electricity rates in the nation under this governor. The least the governor can do accordingly is veto H.B. 5340 which would add billions of dollars in new costs and public benefits charges to your electricity bills.
This policy would increase subsidies to for-profit energy companies on the backs of families like yours. No matter your political affiliation, you can understand why that is wrong.
All the governor must do to stop billions in new costs for our residents is use the veto pen. Today we call on him to use it and make sure that his actions match his words on affordability.
