This is ridiculous. After spending 9 years of my education in UCD I am behind appalled at this email. UCD keeps caring about profit above all else. It’s time to recognise the GENOCIDE, cut ties from Israeli universities as well as funding. UCD do better @UCDSU @ucddublin

Today we have sent an open letter to @OrlaFeely, UCD President, asking her to act immediately to address the crisis affecting PhD researchers in @ucddublin.
You are welcoming an increase that still leaves PhD researchers under minimum wage, increases the pay inequality of PhD workers, still doesn’t recognise PhD as workers with sick/parental leave nor PRSI contributions as well as completely neglecting non-EU students. @PWO_Ireland
SFI welcomes the decision by Minister @SimonHarrisTD to increase the stipend for SFI and @IrishResearch supported PhD research.

PWO Statement on Budget 2024
ALT Summarised PWO statement on Budget 2024. Today, the Minister for Finance and the Minister for Public Expenditure announced the measures that will be implemented in the year 2024. Budget 2024 fails to address any of the issues faced by PhD researchers. Context: On the 26th of June 2023, the Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Skills (DFHERIS) released the initial report of the National Review of State Supports for PhD Researchers. According to the DFHERIS, this review would inform any changes implemented in this year’s budget. Nonetheless, Budget 2024 does not make any reference to any changes to the current state of finance or status of PhD researchers. We also note the IUA published a statement in response to the Budget today which, likewise, neglects to mention PhD researchers. "Investment in talent" is nothing but hollow rhetoric -- this increase won't reach the vast majority of PhDs. Even so, increased stipends are still **below minimum wage** and far, far below PhD pay in the rest of the EU. The talent won't settle for crumbs. Join @PWO_Ireland
This is not enough. PhD students have a central role in running universities. This increase will not solve the problem, it feels like a slap on the wrist. We have warned the minister, universities etc. now is time to strike. @PWO_Ireland @OrlaFeely
