The statements by NHS England in this article show complete disconnection from reality. This could be so many departments. How about some respect and honesty … perhaps even an apology to patients, and staff trying to care for them in our EDs? @rcollem apple.news/ABEQnnqdsRfqs108G…

In February 2024, 1 in 4 patients between the ages of 70-79 waited 12+ hours in A&E, for the 80-89 group this was closer to 1 in 3, and for 90+ it was 1 in 3 via @RCollEM #ResuscitateEmergencyCare bit.ly/OlderPeopleED2024

‘The seeds of emergency care crisis were planted long before the 2020 pandemic’… We know, we said there was a crisis, we said 12 hour stays were dangerous and getting more frequent and we needed more beds but NHSE just ploughed on with short term plans. @RCEMpresident

1/ A 24-hour wait in Emergency Departments should be a never event. January-September 2023, there were 36,025 waits for 24 hours or more in EDs. In September 2016, 7 people waited for 24 hours or longer & in September 2023, the number was 3,927. A 56,000% increase.
It is good to see discussion of what we have all known for years. The hours combatting the desire to find ‘low hanging fruit’ solutions to four hour performance!! Often driven hard by NHSE despite clinician concern @RCEMpresident

bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-6705… Data and metrics need to be meaningful, transparent and equitable. I bet the people who are excluded from these routine stats are older, more likely to be admitted and have presented with a mental health crisis.
