Gentlemen, you must build something. This is the essence of masculinity. You can build a house. Or a home. Or a business. Or a fortune. Or a family. All of these are good, and you can combine them. But you must build. Building is your birthright and your obligation as a man.

An oldie but a goodie. In 1968 a bunch of entitled hippy bastards sent a letter detailing their specious demands to the Warden and Fellows of Wadham College, Oxford. This was their letter of reply, which speaks to how far the academy has since fallen.

Ha. My Dad went to uni in the 60s. A student was holding forth once to a lecturer about student uprisings in Paris and an academic responded:
‘We could beat you in a war, even if we were extremely drunk. Especially if we were extremely drunk.’

We always joke about how polite Canadians are. It’s true. They’re very polite when politeness is appropriate. But you have no idea how badass they are when they fight. Don’t fuck with them in person. This is my best advice.
I saw another young man declare victory over suffering. There’s always a new one begging to be humbled. Karma remains undefeated.

I hate the clocks going backwards and forwards. When I was young, we didn’t even have clocks. If we got hungry, we ate each other. We were poor, but we were happy. Good times. Not that we had time. It hadn’t been invented. We had to make our own time out of string and cholera.
