It’s really sad to see more bonfires at our Blue Bell Hill reserve. These fires do more than spoil the landscape. They destroy habitats, put wildlife at risk, and require time and funding to put right - resources that should be protecting nature, not repairing preventable damage. If you can help, please consider supporting our Nature Nightmares Appeal - kwtg.uk/nature-nightmares

Berries are a lifeline for birds and mammals in January and February. From hawthorn to holly berries, our native trees and shrubs provide vital food for blackbirds, redwings, fieldfares, and thrushes when insects are scarce. Read full blog by our volunteer Margery to discover more about winter berries, the wildlife that depend on them for survival and how you can help us protect vital habitats - kwtg.uk/winter-berries 📷 Amy Lewis

A January primrose in bloom at Yockletts Bank! 🌸 Often thought of as a spring flower, primroses can bloom from from as early as December in mild years, appearing all the way through the spring until May. In fact, the primrose's common name comes from the Latin 'prima rosa', meaning 'first rose' and describing its early flowering! Yockletts Bank is a gem of a reserve near Petham, Canterbury, comprised of ancient woodland on a chalk escarpment with a clay cap. Why not plan your visit? kwtg.uk/yockletts-bank

Unfortunately, someone has cut ivy from one of our oaks at Hothfield recently... 😟 Despite its reputation, ivy offers bird nesting habitat and vital berry and food sources for winter. Many animals on the reserve rely on it during this part of the year, when palatable leaves are rare. Ivy takes years to grow to this size and this removal has completely undone all that growth - what we have now is another 'naked' oak tree, of which there are already plenty in the area. It bears repeating: please don't cut ivy down on our nature reserves. 💔🌱 You can read all about ivy's vital role in biodiversity here: kentwildlifetrust.org.uk/new… 📷 Warden Will
