This is so intelligent, I want to cry: The 140 seats won by the student opposition against Serbia's nationalist government party will be taken up not by students, but by academics, professors & public figures from pre-chosen pool of 250 experts, selected by student plenums.
This generation keeps rewriting the political game and I love it!
Everyone needs to know what actually happened in Serbia.
Instead of students just protest against their government, the students organized themselves into a student list and ran in elections against their government—and they have just won.
Dear Serbia, congratulations on your victory; you have just opened a new door in protesting. This is history

If devolution was working the way it was intended, the governors of Nyandarua, Mūrang'a,Kiambu&Nyeri should have met by now & taken a common stand on how to protect the Aberdare Forest. It should not be business as usual while they risk losing their most important water tower😔.
Someone needs to bring URTNA back😃

A reported KSh312 billion revenue shortfall should force a government to reconsider its spending priorities. Yet, according to the Controller of Budgets, expenditure on travel and hospitality continued to rise. That contrast raises the question, when revenue falls short, whose expenditure is restrained and whose comfort is protected?
The Controller of Budget has faulted the National Treasury over billions withdrawn under emergency provisions to finance routine government operations. This is not just a question of how much was spent. It is a question of how expenditure was justified, why routine operations required emergency provisions, and whether the public is receiving a satisfactory explanation. These are concerns should not be converted into a blanket conclusion that every withdrawal was unlawful.
The distinction between an emergency and a routine expense must mean something. If an operation is routine, citizens are entitled to ask why it was not adequately planned and provided for through the ordinary budget. If circumstances genuinely changed, the Treasury should explain what changed, why additional expenditure became necessary, and why the emergency route was appropriate. An explanation should identify the expenditure and its justification, not simply invoke the demands of government operations.
The revenue figure also needs careful language. If collections fell short by KSh312 billion, that is a reported shortfall and not, by itself, proof that revenue declined by that amount compared with the previous year. But the public-interest question remains, how does rising expenditure on travel and hospitality fit within a government’s response to a substantial revenue gap?
The issue is accountability. Travel and hospitality expenditure should be justified by identifiable public purposes, particularly when available revenue is under pressure. The Treasury should answer the Controller’s concerns openly, disclose the expenditure financed through the emergency provisions, and explain why routine operations were funded in that manner. Parliament should scrutinise those explanations rather than allow the concerns to disappear into another news cycle.
Kenyans deserve more than competing statements about revenue pressures and the cost of running government. They deserve a clear account of what was prioritised, why it was prioritised, and who takes responsibility for those decisions. A revenue shortfall must prompt scrutiny of government’s own choices and not merely become another burden the public is expected to absorb.
What worries me about Kenya is the obsession we have developed lately with securitisation, public-private partnerships (PPPs) and complex deals involving mysterious entities whose ultimate beneficial owners remain unknown.
The deals are too many to keep track of, and I fear that one day we will pay dearly for the lack of transparency and accountability surrounding them.
