1/ The use of writing in the Minoan and Mycenaean worlds reflects two entirely different sociopolitical and religious structures. Although Linear B' is an evolution of Linear A', the manner and purpose for which the two societies used these systems present profound contrasts.

The Thanksgiving Service on the Field of Agincourt - Edmund Blair Leighton, c. 1909
On this day in 1415, Henry V defeated a much larger French force at the Battle of Agincourt. A clever choice of terrain, brilliant tactics, and the deadly use of the longbow won the day. The legendary victory placed Henry V into the pantheon of England's greatest warrior kings.

I have a #question. If a book calls itself a #biography, & uses conversations or recollections of their subject that are not backed up by archival research or primary source evidence, is that biography still a biography, or is it fair to say it is semi fictionalised? 🤔

Today is World Champagne Day, and we're reminded of this quote from Casino Royale. Whilst Bond is famous for his martinis, both he and Ian Fleming were partial to a glass of fizz. 007 actually drinks more Champagne in the books than he does martinis. We’ll raise a glass of ‘cheerful wine’ to that! #WorldChampagneDay #JamesBond #IanFleming #CasinoRoyale

Sometimes a Greek vase takes my breath away. This vase-painter depicts a stone statue of Heracles, his lionskin being painted encaustically by an artist with pigmented hot wax melted by an attendant on a brazier. Heracles comes to inspect, his dad Zeus and a winged Victory aloft.

Behind Britain’s famous victory at Trafalgar were sailors spanning six decades in age. Thomas Wilcott, just 8 years old, serving as a third-class boy aboard HMS Neptune. At the other end of the age spectrum was John Adams, aged 68, serving aboard HMS Royal Sovereign. #OnThisDay

Massimiliano Sforza (1493–1530) ruled Milan from 1512 to 1515 amid the Italian Wars. After his Swiss allies fell at Marignano, he surrendered his claim to Milan to Francis I of France in exchange for a pension, spending his remaining years in exile.
