Did I have things to improve? Of course. Every striker does. But instead of helping me reach another level, I felt like my future at Chelsea was already being decided for me. “I liked Chelsea. I wanted to succeed there. I wanted to become one of the best strikers in the world wearing that shirt. But when the manager doesn’t fully believe in you and the decision is made to send you out on loan, what are you supposed to do? I had to move on and prove myself somewhere else. “That’s why I say Maresca played a big part in how my Chelsea story ended. People look at the fact that I left and assume I failed. No, I don’t accept that. Leaving a club doesn’t automatically mean you’re a failure. Sometimes, you simply need a manager who trusts you enough to let you play your game.
