Lots of good news from the Ocanas Lab! We just received a $248,000 grant from the @alzassociation to study estrogenic effects in Alzheimer’s disease. @alzoklahoma
With a new grant from @alzassociation, OMRF's Dr. Sarah Ocañas (@OcanasSR) is studying whether an estrogen boost can delay or possibly prevent Alzheimer's disease in post-menopausal women ⤵️ omrf.org/2023/10/17/omrf-sci…

Shout out to @evastc, @HarrisEdwardB & @kyhonda for our latest aging/physiology study now out in @SciReports! Old (>20 mo) male mice have smaller D2-GIRK currents in the nigra than young mice, but remarkably aging DOESN’T affect most local DA physiology 👀 rdcu.be/c3LyI

Thrilled to see our work out in @SfNJournals! Dopamine neurons release neurotensin to cause LTD of dendritic D2-IPSCs, but only in nigra and not VTA. Optostim of DA cells can both evoke IPSCs and cause LTD that is dependent on NTS receptors and... 1/2

If it could get any more ridiculous, consider this: No one uses the Sudafed (pseudoephedrine) route to make methamphetamine anymore, it's exclusively P2P (phenyl-2-propanone), and has been for a decade. We could lift the restriction today and it wouldn't affect meth synthesis.

We know common sense gun laws can’t and won’t prevent every tragedy. But we know they work and have a positive impact.
When we passed the assault weapons ban — mass shootings went down.
When the law expired — mass shootings tripled.
