Movies - and storytelling more broadly - are among the most powerful tools we have to shape how we see the world, and how we imagine the future.
That’s why it has always saddened me that, over the past few decades, Hollywood has produced a seemingly endless stream of dystopian narratives: technology is dangerous, humanity is flawed, capitalism is evil, and only a few exceptional heroes save us from ourselves.
I deeply believe there is another story to tell.
I believe in humanity. And I believe technology combined with capitalism is, overwhelmingly, a force for good.
Of course, there will always be people who misuse technology. But they are the exception, not the rule. Throughout history, human ingenuity and technological progress have helped us live longer, healthier, safer and more prosperous lives - and I believe the most extraordinary chapters are still ahead of us.
This is one of the many reasons I have always loved @StarTrek. Instead of portraying humanity and technology as adversaries, it imagined what becomes possible when they advance together. It showed us an optimistic future in which curiosity, science and technology allow humanity not just to survive, but to flourish - even beyond Earth.
The stories we tell about the future matter. Because before we can build a better future, we need to be able to imagine one.
And also on a spiritual level, I deeply believe that we create what we think and imagine. So positivity matters.
That’s why I’m incredibly proud to team up with @PeterDiamandis, Rod Roddenberry - whose father, Gene Roddenberry, created Star Trek - @CathieDWood, and many other extraordinary people to create the Future Vision @XPRIZE
Our goal is to support filmmakers and storytellers who dare to imagine a radically better future and to bring more ambitious, optimistic and technology-positive visions to screens around the world.
Dystopia is easy to imagine.
Building the future starts with believing that something better is possible.

This is true - one does not need to be a scientist to fight aging
Replying to @LinusPeters
What is everyone here contributing to the prevention and reversal of aging? Everyone, not just scientists can have major roles.

I've FINALLY finished voting for the FutureVision X prize. Damn was it hard! All trailers were excellent BUT alot didn't fit the 'optimistic abundant future for humanity' brief which to me disqualified them. In the end the winner for me is 'The Last Generation to Die' no contest – at West Swan, Western Australia
If you've watched the trailer — thank you. A like or comment on YouTube still helps, and the $100K Audience Choice vote is still open. Go pick the future you want:

Aging is arguably the root cause of most major diseases. Our cells lose function as we age, allowing various conditions to manifest, which is why most major diseases correlate with age.
Yes, it is more complex than this, but this is a major component. @newlimit is working on treating a root cause of disease (aging) using epigenetic reprogramming.

Imagine if we could tell a different story. One where aging doesn't rob us of our passions. One where we choose when we're done.
Longevity research will help us write that story.
