Today's the day: I'm going off-grid until October 21st. No phone, no Internet, no checking the news at all If there's something I ought to read about upon my return, feel free to drop a link in the comments to document the horrors (if you want, I'm not the boss of you)

This has not even remotely been my experience, it's actually really easy to support human rights and everyone should try it
Being a trans ally is a slippery slope because you start off giving trans people a little bit of grace and now you’re stuck being forced to comply with their demands that get more insane every other day

Fellas, there's no use fighting it. Like it or not, AI is going to replace all creative fields within the next two weeks and achieve superintelligence by the end of the year Humanity is basically obsolete. You simply cannot compete with a machine like this

notice how mamdani has never capitulated to rightwing rhetoric regarding trans rights and how instead he has openly embraced us, and he won by a landslide. it never came to bite him in the ass, it only ever helped his image. democrats please fucking learn from this.

They did though, the “Antifa terrorism” executive order was signed shortly after, which was then followed by NSPM-7. Since then the Trump admin has spied on activists, journalists, unions, and nonprofits. They sentenced people to 50 years in jail for attending a protest.
When Kirk was killed, I was really worried the administration was going to turn it into a Horst Wessel moment and institute a major crackdown on civil liberties. They didn’t for two reasons: one unpredictable, one predictable. Nobody predicted that a popular movement would turn his death into a punchline, which deflated the dire threats of right-wing figures and made them seem fatuous. In the second, which anyone could have predicted, Trump just didn’t put that much effort into canonizing Kirk, because he doesn’t care about anyone but himself. He believes (after surviving an assassination attempt) that if you get assassinated, you’re a loser. So despite lesser figures like Vance and Tucker Carlson trying to turn Charlie Kirk into a martyr, their leader couldn’t be arsed, and martyrdom failed. And so we have this as his legacy.

trying to get people to understand that the trans women in sports debate isn’t really about sports but a meta narrative pushed by the right all about slowly getting all trans people out of public life is truly impossible

Hey question: why is a magazine called The Economist applying an argument that works only in a state of perfect competition to both a commodity with inelastic demand and a monopoly? Capitalists don't understand basic economics
There is a respectable argument for slowing down AI research, but it rests on the danger to all humanity of the technology being abused or going rogue—not the local harms of data centres economist.com/leaders/2026/0…

I have a couple alternate ideas re: what to do if I don't want a bunch of cameras to see where my car is going on the roadways my tax money paid for
If you don’t want a bunch of cameras to see where your car is going on public roadways, then don’t drive a car. Matter of fact, just live in the woods and avoid society altogether. You don’t have an absolute right to privacy in public places.
