ā€œArtificial intelligenceā€ (Ai) was coined in 1956 by computer scientist John McCarthy The roots go back even further to the 50s AI has officially been known as ā€œAIā€ for about 70 years. Super intelligence is in the future and not today’s reality.

Earlier this year we launched Atom's MCP server so AI agents could search, appraise, and check domains on Atom. One step was still missing: paying for one. Today that's closed. Atom is one of the first domain platforms live on @stripe and @tempo's Machine Payments Protocol. An agent gets a price, receives a 402, pays, and the domain lands in its user's account. No checkout page, no human in the loop. Registrations and premium marketplace domains, live today. atom.com/blog/atom-com-is-no…

We just bought the domain Stan.Com for $750,000 😳 When I first started Stan, I was so broke that the best domain I could afford was StanWith.Me 🫠 Eventually we got Stan.Store and that was a huge win. Stan.Com tried to charge us hundreds of thousands of dollar. But we were a tiny company barely making $500k. I still remember thinking, "lol I will never pay that for a domain". So there's something really special about this moment. The most special part though is that Alyssa Williams, our first ever business hire, got the deal done. Alyssa's been with us in the trenches since day one, back before we had anything. It's a beautiful full circle moment for all of us. It might sound silly, but I'm realizing buying Stan.Com is a beautiful symbol of grinding for years, and then seeing the fruits of your labor manifest into the real world. So this is your reminder that you can start with a shitty domain like StanWith.Me, no money, and tons of people doubting you. And one day - you can have an incredible team, incredible mission, and a 4 letter .com domain ;) Onwards and upwards Stan team!

BREAKING: The House has passed legislation to make Daylight Saving Time permanent nationwide, ending the twice-a-year clock changes by a 308-117 vote. Backed by President Trump, the bill now heads to the Senate. If approved and signed into law, Americans would no longer have to change their clocks.

I doubt many people get good at domain investing only from trial and error, without learning about the sales of others. So it’s a way to give back. Our sister company has shared thousands of sales with NameBio. I don’t recall it ever coming back to bite us once. Maybe if you discovered a new niche and you’re still trying to secure your bag. But that’s a rare, once or twice in a lifetime kind of thing, if ever. For 99% of sales it simply doesn’t apply. When I hear people hesitant to give away alpha it reminds me of entrepreneurs who come up with a business idea and are terrified someone is going to steal it, want NDAs to even talk about it, etc. I just roll my eyes. As with almost anything in business, it almost all comes down to execution. If someone knowing about a sale you made will harm your business, you’re already cooked. Sure, I’m a little biased, but I’m also not wrong šŸ™ƒ

Don't try to explain your domains to other domainers. It's one of the fastest ways to learn that everyone is looking through a completely different lens. A developer sees utility, brand builder sees emotion, startup founder sees a product and most domainer sees liquidity. And sometimes a guy who just handregged 500 AI domains last week sees himself as the next Warren Buffett of domains. One domainer will tell you your name is brilliant. Another will call it a waste of reg fee. A third will ask why you didn't buy the plural. A fourth will tell you the singular is the only one that matters. The crux is that domain investing is part business, part experience, and part personal bias. Seeking validation from other domainers is often like asking ten art critics to agree on a painting. You'll get twelve opinions, three arguments, and at least one person insisting the frame is worth more than the artwork. Buy what makes sense to you. If the market eventually agrees, great. If not, at least you'll know the decision was yours, not the result of a committee meeting disguised as twitter comment section.

We're finally shedding the .so (thank you Somalia!), and using the .com for @NotionHQ. And for this beautiful moment, I want to share a fun story: Back in 2018, I had just joined Notion, and one of the first things @ivan asked me to do was figure out how we could own notion.com. I had never done a big domain purchase before, so I reached out to a few domain brokers to understand the landscape. We tried different brokers, kept things anonymous, and attempted to surface a price the seller might consider. A year went by… nothing. Meanwhile, it was pretty clear this was only going to get more expensive as we grew. We needed a different approach. A fellow founder connected me to a broker who took a very different tack. Less transactional, more long-term relationship builder. He spent months getting to know the domain owner. Turns out owner was a fellow entrepreneur in the west coast… and a huge Grateful Dead fan. So we figured, why not get creative? Something beyond just price. So I called up our investor Ronny Conway and asked if there was any way he could help set up a private meeting between the domain owner and the Grateful Dead. Ronny is one of those people who somehow makes impossible things possible. A week later he calls me back: ā€œNew York City. Halloween. 15 minutes after the concert. Done.ā€ The broker went back to the owner with an offer: some cash, some equity, and a private meeting with the Grateful Dead. That got his attention. He didn’t take the band meeting in the end, but he did lean into the equity (great call, in hindsight). We shook hands, and a few weeks later, the deal was done. I’ve been waiting years for the day we move our product to notion.com. Looks like 2026 is finally the year. Safe to say I’m unreasonably excited about this update!

Last week GoDaddy moved a 27-year-old domain from my friend's account to a stranger who never submitted a single document. They used an email signature to identify the parent domain and just transferred it. Here's the full story: anchor.host/godaddy-gave-a-d…

Love this šŸ‘€ We just launched a free keyword tool for domain research powered by @NameBio unclaimedname.com/keywords Get real insights on domain keywords: built for founders + domain investors.
🚨 FREE Access to Retail Keyword Stats 🚨 We just launched one of the most valuable things we've ever built, and we're giving it away completely for free, no registration required! It's an API endpoint that lets you search a keyword, and it gives you stats on how that keyword performs in Retail sales when it is the exact SLD, at the start, at the end, and somewhere in the middle. For each keyword position it will tell you the number of sales, total dollar volume, average price, highest price, and standard deviation. You can also download the entire list of more than 100k unique keywords, including all placements and stats. This not only helps you identify valuable keywords, it also helps you understand programmatically which position is better for each one. For example, look at the attached screenshot of a search on "agent". You can instantly see that it has a higher sales velocity at the end rather than at the start. But you can also quickly see that being at the start results in a 33% higher average sale price than at the end. This information is extremely valuable for domain spinners, appraisers, and AI agents, to better understand keyword values in Retail sales. Please note: unlike the Placement search on our homepage, these placements are mutually exclusive. On our site, searching "shop" could return shop․net if you search Exact, At the Start, At the End, or In the Middle. We generally err on the side of showing you something that might potentially be of interest. But in this tool a sale of Shop․net would only contribute to the "Exact" stats, favoring precision over all else. Enjoy! Link is in the comments šŸ‘‡

Is domain investing profitable for you? I’m not asking you to post your answer publicly, but I am suggesting that you take a hard look at your numbers. Are you spending more on acquisitions and renewals year after year ā€œhopingā€ for some big sale to bail you out? What is your overall net? Have you brought in more than you have spent? It’s easy to keep chugging along and being content with a few wins here an there without looking at the big picture. I know… I’ve done it in the past. Business 101 - Income has to exceed expenses. If that isn’t happening, you don’t have good investments; You’ve got liabilities at $11 per year (multiplied by however many domains you are holding.) When you acquire a domain name you need to know with reasonable certainty: - Who the intended buyer will be. - Is it a name that someone would actually use in business. - Roughly how much you will sell it for. - How many years you are committed to renewing it (@BettyAiProject says it should be worth renewing for 10 years.) - Bonus: if you get in a bind, can you sell it at wholesale? P.S. I thought I would find time to blog this year, but it’s been a bit crazy, so this is my compromise. #domains #domaininvesting #business101
