I donโt want to stockpile anything.
I want to live in a first world country that actually functions.

Burnham, in 2019, complaining about free movement, having been in favour of the EU, and subsequently against it in Makerfield, and now back in favour. He's a charlatan. A Prime Minister who has lied his way to power in Britain is quickly found out. You'd be mad to vote for this.

Good to see Robert Jenrickโs @RobertJenrick Economic Rescue Plan putting real numbers on the table: ยฃ67bn of savings, welfare reform, an end to net zero subsidies, inside the fiscal rules. Credible and costed. A serious start.

JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon pushes back after being asked why Americaโs CEOs are afraid to criticize President Trump: โIโve said what I think. What the hell else do you want me to say?โ ๐บ๐ธ
Interviewer: โIโm genuinely struck by the unwillingness of CEOs in America to say anything critical. Thereโs a climate of fear in your country. Would you agree with that?โ
Jamie Dimon: โThe Davos intellectual elite. Iโve been coming to Davos all these years, listening to chatter and stuff like that. Has it done a good job making the world a better place? We get together and talk. What do you want me to do?
I have strong views. Some of the things Trump has done are good, and some are not.
Iโm not a tariff guy. Do I use it in certain cases? Yes. I think they should change their approach to immigration. Iโve said it.
What the hell else do you want me to say? Iโm trying to have a conversation.โ

Disgusting. Bath & North East Somerset Council is about to write off a ยฃ606,000 loan it gave its own housing company and spend another ยฃ200,000 fixing unauthorised works the council itself carried out on two properties in Upper Weston.
Residents foot the bill for the councilโs mess, while the properties get sold and the company walks away from the debt. Public money burned because of poor decisions, planning breaches, and a housing company that canโt stand on its own.
Taxpayers expected better than this.๐๐๐๐

HMRC has quietly sent hundreds of letters to wealthy people asking them to reveal what they own. Not what they earn or what tax they've paid, but what they own.
Here's what's going on. A unit called the Wealthy Team covers anyone with "incomes of ยฃ200,000 or more, or assets equal to or above ยฃ2m in any of the last three years". That's about 850,000 people. The letters ask for a meeting to discuss "sources of wealth", "future intentions", trusts, companies, family arrangements and even "significant life events" you expect in the coming years.
It is presented as voluntary, but there's a nudge: "We may still need to carry out compliance checks on your tax returns. However, speaking with you first may help avoid this."
Until now, inspectors have usually only asked about income and earnings. Experts call this a "sea change". One lawyer asked the obvious question: "does HMRC have a right to know what someone owns and not simply that they have paid the right amount of tax?" A tax adviser said: "No other G20 country asks for this level of detail from its taxpayers about what they own."
So what is it for? Advisers suspect it is groundwork for an exit tax, a charge on your wealth for leaving the country. As one put it: "Building that knowledge could indeed be part of moving towards an exit tax."
You don't have to be a billionaire to see the problem.
