Major depressive disorder is a medical illness.
Just as people can develop conditions such as hypothyroidism because of autoimmune disease or inherit a genetic predisposition to certain illnesses, depression can also arise from a combination of genetic, biological, psychological, and environmental factors.
The brain is the most complex organ in the human body, and like every other organ, it can become unwell. That's why someone can appear successful, financially secure, or surrounded by loved ones and still experience depression.
Mental illness is not a sign of weakness. It is a health condition that deserves understanding, support, and appropriate treatment. 🖤🌿
Internalized homophobia can have a profound impact on mental health. When someone repeatedly absorbs and believes negative messages about homosexuality, it can lead to confusion, shame, self-criticism, anxiety, and emotional distress. Healing begins by recognizing those internalized beliefs and addressing them with self-compassion and, when needed, professional support. 🖤🌿

This sounds ridiculous but it's actually the best part of therapy. 🖤🌿
🌿 Talking to yourself kindly instead of criticizing yourself.
🌿 Writing a letter to someone you'll never send.
🌿 Hugging a pillow or using a weighted blanket for comfort.
🌿 Naming your emotions out loud (I'm feeling anxious right now).
🌿 Scheduling "worry time" instead of worrying all day.
🌿 Looking at yourself in the mirror and saying affirmations.
🌿 Deep breathing exercises.
🌿 Dancing, singing, or shaking your body to release stress.
🌿 Keeping a gratitude journal.
🌿 Talking to an empty chair as if the person you're struggling with were sitting there (the "empty chair" exercise).
Which one will you keep up today to save yourself some stress? Drop it in the replies 👇🖤🌿

A lot of us, especially our elders, wake up carrying heavy guilt over what we couldn’t achieve.
That daily weight? It’s not okay.
It steals peace, joy, and the years still left. You survived poverty, raised families, kept faith through storms, and showed up when it was hard. That’s not failure, that’s legacy.
Forgive yourself. Reframe what achievement means. Pour into the next generation. God is not done with you, even now.
Release the guilt. Choose peace of mind today.
You are enough🖤🌿
A few years ago, after one of our seminary sessions, a young man walked up to me and said, "I really enjoyed what you shared today about mental health."
I thanked him and told him that my goal has always been to help young people understand the importance of protecting their mental well-being and maximizing their peace of mind.
Then he said, "There's something that's been troubling me for years."
He shared that they had lost their mother in a car accident. Ten years later, his father suffered a stroke that left him unable to walk. The emotional and financial burden became overwhelming.
I asked about his relatives and siblings. He explained that his parents had always kept them away from extended family because they believed they couldn't be trusted. He and his two siblings were left to carry the responsibility, but he felt most of the burden had fallen on him while earning very little from his job.
After listening carefully, I encouraged him, shared practical ways to manage the situation, and reminded him not to lose hope despite everything he was facing.
Yesterday, at our church headquarters, someone called out, "Siezure!"
At first, I couldn't remember him because I've met so many people over the years. Then he introduced himself, and everything came back to me.
I looked at him and smiled. He had changed completely—healthy, confident, and full of life.
He said, "That conversation changed my life. I applied the advice you gave me, and it worked. Today, I'm the branch manager of my company in one of the regions."
Hearing those words filled my heart with gratitude.
Nothing brings me more joy than seeing someone overcome difficult circumstances and grow into the person they were meant to become.
If my words can encourage even one person to keep going, then every conversation is worthwhile.
If you've learned something from my page, or if any of my posts have encouraged you, I'd love to hear about it. Feel free to like, share, and tell me how they've impacted you. Your story might encourage someone else to keep going. 🖤🌿

Don't let other people's expectations become the prison you live in. Be authentic, stand by your values, and let those who truly appreciate you stay. Everyone else can keep their box. 🖤🌿
Some men cheat while struggling with unresolved emotional pain or depression. Some women cheat because they feel emotionally disconnected or their needs aren't being met. Neither justifies cheating. So how do we fix this? By encouraging honest communication, emotional maturity, and seeking help before betrayal becomes the answer. 🖤🌿
