You can change your mind. Even after announcing your plans to the entire world. Announcing a plan doesn't lock you into a life contract. You are allowed to outgrow your own public announcements, change direction, and walk away.

Congrats to America, from the South African woman who took Israel to the ICJ for genocide. South Africa is the moral heavyweight of the world 🇿🇦

Also we need to note that the IEC is working with a reduced budget. We should be fighting for them to get more funding so they have more staff and things that they need but more importantly it means we as citizens need to do our bit even more i.e. checking your details.

Voter illiteracy is a big problem among communities of colour in this country and it shows.

Let’s hope the IEC starts 2029 voter education campaigns as soon as now. This thing of buying ad space reminding people to vote but not educating them is a problem that needs to be addressed.

I love SA, our people, and our constitution. Beyond the elections, my ultimate hope is positive change for ALL South Africans. We all deserve good governance and policing, access to opportunities, and our basic needs met consistently. 🇿🇦

Having spent the last few months campaigning in townships, it’s literally just that people don’t see the point in voting. They are despondent about the state of affairs and until their material conditions change, we’re going to experience an even further decline in turnout.
Replying to @baddaysareover
AND it seems like voter turnout was low in townships as well. The reality is that we need to get our people to care about voting & maybe do better to understand why they’re not voting. Is transportation an issue? Are people not getting time off from work?

if there was ever a time to understand the cost of voter apathy, it’s now. when you stay home, you leave decisions about your future in the hands of those who show up. this is precisely why i have such little regard for non-voters.

South Africa is officially the online gambling capital of the world. 🇿🇦 Nearly 1 in 3 internet users gambled online in the past month, compared to just 10.2% in the US. This isn’t an achievement to celebrate. It’s a warning sign about financial desperation, addiction and the growing cost of living.

What can we do to better voter education in communities where the turnout is low? We have time until national elections to push people to vote because we cannot keep letting parties benefit from voter turnout.

Fully agree, and I'll own it. I'm very much an ANC beneficiary. BEE made it possible for the state to pay for my studies. After I qualified, it opened the door to a managerial role. I am where I am today because of policies the ANC put in place. But make no mistake, that will not make me loyal to a party that today does not put South Africans first. Gratitude for what was done yesterday doesn't excuse what's being done today. The best way to honour what we were given is to hold the people in power to the same standard that got us here. That's why I'm voting with my head, not my history.
Don’t think calling someone an ANC beneficiary is a “gotcha” moment or an insult. EVERY SOUTH AFRICAN is a beneficiary of the ANC. We are standing in lines today to vote because of them (and others). Reflect on that. THIS DOES NOT MEAN IM VOTING ANC!

I will never understand why people support political parties the same way they support their sports teams. Politicians WORK FOR YOU using YOUR MONEY, if Action SA disappoints me, i am voting for a different party. I am loyal to myself & South Africa not to politicians.
