All eight names are the 2026 Texas Democratic statewide ticket, run as a single coordinated slate. Every statewide executive office plus the U.S. Senate seat. Same ballot line, same campaign apparatus, same election night.
Shared campaign infrastructure. All eight were built into “Texas Together,” a $30M coordinated campaign the Texas Democratic Party ran jointly with the Texas Majority PAC, Powered by People (Beto O’Rourke’s group), and the Texas House Democratic Campaign Committee. Per the Tribune, they shared voter files, vendor agreements, field offices, and 30+ million mailers, and held joint rallies. That’s a literal shared-donor and shared-vendor pipeline — the party ran a competitive RFP and negotiated vendor pricing on their collective behalf.
Shared money. Texas Majority PAC is bankrolled by George Soros and family and staffed by O’Rourke campaign alumni; it covered candidate recruitment and start-up costs. Hinojosa took $1M from JB Pritzker and $1M from the Democratic Governors Association. Talarico drew Mark Cuban, Bill Nye, and Don Henley. All eight got bloc endorsements from the Houston Chronicle and Austin Statesman editorial boards.
Six of eight were sitting state legislators, all in the same Lege Democratic caucuses. Four of those six — Talarico, Hinojosa, Goodwin (House) and Eckhardt (Senate) — represent overlapping Austin/Travis County districts. Same media market, same donor Rolodex, same base.
The Texas Legislative Progressive Caucus. Hinojosa was a vice chair; Goodwin is the caucus whip. Talarico was the founding figure of the caucus (founded 2021, the session he entered). Goodwin and Eckhardt are both ranked among the most liberal members by Rice’s Mark Jones scores.
Dynasty ties to the party itself. Hinojosa’s father, Gilberto Hinojosa, chaired the Texas Democratic Party from 2012 to 2025 — the same party that built the coordinated campaign her ticket-mates rode. Eckhardt’s father was U.S. Rep. Bob Eckhardt. Johnson’s employer is Thompson Coburn LLP.
Shared platform and fate. All five legislators plus Tucker and Flores backed a data-center moratorium; the whole slate ran on affordability and anti-corruption. They won by 4.5 to 12 points and all take office in January.

On April 11, Vance arrived in Islamabad to negotiate directly with Iranian officials and Reuters was already reporting Iranian officials had specifically wanted Vance involved, “viewing him as one of Trump's most anti-war advisers and therefore potentially more receptive to a deal.”
At that point it had been six weeks of American and Israeli strikes which by the way had killed senior Iranian leaders, including Ayatollah Khamenei, and severely damaged Iranian military infrastructure. At that point, they were still driving up the cost of energy. Iran was demanding sanctions relief, frozen assets, an end to attacks in Lebanon and recognition of its authority over Hormuz.
The AP reported that at the time the joint operation had struck over 13,000 targets, 90% of the navy was sunk, 90% of weapons factories were attacked and 80% of their air defenses were destroyed.
The Carnegie Endowment's April assessment confirmed that American and Israeli forces had achieved air superiority in important parts of Iran and could continue conducting strikes without Iran stopping their air operations.
Iran needed relief, and America had the power to demand substantial concessions yet for some reason Vance helped negotiate a June memorandum of understanding that began lifting the blockade, permitted Iranian oil sales, contemplated access to frozen assets, and deferred the most important nuclear restrictions to future negotiations. Why would he do that? It was May/June. We had time to resolve this from a position of strength? Even more astonishing though was that agreement limited Washington’s ability to impose additional sanctions or deploy more forces while negotiations continued.
The CIA warned against the agreement. People were in an uproar about it. We totally squandered away any leverage we had. Then Vance championed the agreement again and then publicly insisted Iran would receive nothing without changing its behavior. Iran exported billions of dollars’ worth of oil during the temporary opening, while no comprehensive nuclear settlement was ever finalized. The MOU collapsed in July, and by October, Reuters reported that Iranian officials were deliberately prolonging negotiations to deny Trump a political victory before the midterms.
That was what went wrong with the war. I find it absolutely unbelievable that people have the audacity to champion him as some hero in this whole thing.
We could have done something in April, May, June before the midterms, but no, instead this ridiculous memorandum of understanding that never materialized cost us so much time.
On June 25, reporting cited an interview with postliberal extraordinaire Ahmari who conducted it with Vance aboard Air Force Two returning from Switzerland. Vance discussed establishing a direct communication channel between the Iranian Revolutionary Guard and U.S. Central Comm. How did that work out?
Ahmari described Vance as the leading figure in the administration's foreign-policy restraint faction. He portrayed the Iran negotiations as an opportunity to establish a new relationship with Tehran rather than continue military confrontation.
Again, how did that work out?
