After being used in WW2 compulsory ID cards were abolished in 1952 because of the widespread sentiment that they are fundamentally at odds with British values and civil liberties.
That was true then and it’s true now.

From 2019–24, 252 local authorities (80% of councils in England and Wales) recorded around 438,523 complaints or service requests about housing conditions or landlord conduct.
Only about 1% of inspections following these complaints led to the landlord being prosecuted. Around 1 prosecution per 335 complaints.
That’s why…
🚨 Merton Council is paying thousands a month to a private landlord for this temp accommodation. Around £1,000 💷 per room. 7 rooms. No working oven. Leaks and Rats.
