Tonight, as we mark the #IGADMediaAwards2025, we celebrate the storytellers who are shaping and boldly rewriting the future of the IGAD region.
From Sudan to Uganda, Kenya to Ethiopia, Djibouti to South Sudan, Somalia to Eritrea, we honour not just journalism, but the women and men who use their craft to speak authentically, powerfully and fearlessly for the voiceless.
My heartfelt appreciation to the Government of Ethiopia, and to Prime Minister H.E. Dr. Abiy Ahmed, for graciously hosting us and providing the support that made tonightโs event possible. And to all our partners, thank you for walking this journey with us.

The Leadership Academy today facilitated a Regional Webinar convened by its Cohort II Alumni, bringing together hundreds of young people from across the continent to amplify youth engagement in the peace and security sector.
Delivering the keynote address, ILA Director @DrKinyanjui commended ILA alumni for organising such a critical forum, saying such initiatives greatly amplify and complement the Academyโs work. He pledged the Academyโs unwavering support for Alumni initiatives.
@IGADYouthEnvoy Sam Ogwal outlined the measures that #IGAD has put in place to streamline youth involvement in peace and security. He underscored the importance of such regional forums as part of a collective effort to transform the region.
In a clear call to action, the youth presented a declaration that, among other priorities, urges meaningful youth inclusion, particularly in efforts to address the ongoing #Sudan conflict.
