Earlier this week, RUSI hosted The Iran Crisis Stocktake: Who Can Sustain the Pressure?
The US–Iran ceasefire has collapsed, there is no clear path back to the MoU signed this summer, and both sides claim control of the Strait of Hormuz—all amid speculation about a third round of hostilities.
I was joined by an excellent panel of experts: Ali Ansari (@aa51_ansari), Mohammed Al-Basha (@BashaReport and Jonathan Hackett (@jonathanhackett).

As tensions around the Strait of Hormuz and the wider Gulf continue to escalate, RUSI’s briefing on the Iran Crisis Stocktake offers essential context on where this conflict stands and where it’s heading.

Great to see this out and a useful primer given all the current coverage of Russian subversion and political warfare (not ‘hybrid warfare!’).
To Subvert the State: The Ecosystem of Russian Active Measures - Oleksandr Danylyuk and I have just published a book through @RUSI_org on the forms and methods used by the Russian Special Services to manipulate politics abroad: routledge.com/To-Subvert-the…
🌍In the years after the Cold War, it was widely assumed that great powers had moved beyond geopolitics.
Professor Scott Smitson examines why that assumption proved premature in the latest episode of #TalkingStrategy: bit.ly/3Ucdu0C
Final preparations done and the hall is set up for the 2026 RUSI Military Technology Conference. Hopefully we will see many of you there today. If not: you are missing out!

A great series from @triclassified covering the awful consequences of Philby's actions, as well as the sometimes farcical nature of the whole affair.
He's back. MI6's greatest traitor returns to @triclassified podcast as we finish the story of Kim Philby. We pick up with him in Washington as liaison to the new CIA. Episode 1 includes possibly the worst dinner party in history when old friend Guy Burgess drops by......

RUSI was pleased to partner with @CSIS and @UKinUSA yesterday for a conversation with UK Defence Secretary @wesstreeting (@DefenceHQ) on the future of US-UK defence cooperation.
As Europe rearms and transatlantic burden-sharing evolves, the discussion examined how London and Washington can keep deterrence credible.

Even worse, in practice it is not operating at speeds remotely near the new velocity restriction that suddenly came into effect last night.
“Starlink terminals used by Ukrainian drone units began experiencing signal failures at speeds above 160kph, disrupting several missions early on Wednesday morning, according to military personnel and senior Ukrainian officials.
‘Logistics at the frontline and middle strikes are badly limited,’ one senior Ukrainian official familiar with the situation on the front told the FT. Ukraine’s middle strikes target Russian military supply lines and logistics. The limitations came with ‘no warning, just in the middle of the night’, the official said.”

Replying to @jpanikoff
@jpanikoff and @MTSavill joined @AKendallTaylor and @jteurope on Brussel Sprouts this past week to discuss if and how the Iran war would spread to the European territory and how prepared NATO is for a response.

Thought-provoking latest Net Assessment podcast from @profmarlowe @RealChrisPreble @ZackCooper on the potential impact of AI. Worth also reading the recent blog by @kpd_musing on scenarios and predictions for the scale of such disruption.

Great to be on board @marmilbr training ship ‘Brasil’ this evening with my wife. Brazilian food remains undefeated!
I also learned a lot about the Marinha do Brasil, I promise!

Pretty sure I didn’t do any of this @DefenceGeek, and I still got blocked…🤷🏻♂️
A privilege to be on @CNASdc Brussels Sprouts for the first time, and a good conversation; I’d be interested to hear if others think we characterised the threat and frictions accurately.
Thrilled to have the opportunity to join the @CNASdc Brussels Sprouts podcast hosted by my friend and former USG colleague @AKendallTaylor and @jteurope. And to get to engage on such an important topic alongside @RUSI_org's @MTSavill. You can find the episode here:

A good discussion on an important subject, given the occasional hyperbole, but also the real need to improve our defences against air attack. Israel and Ukraine as instructive, but the UK's geography means the threat would be slightly different.
How to defend the UK from missiles and drones youtu.be/0RUw1mX3WB4?is=h2lp… via @YouTube
This was great to discuss with @MTSavill and @gregbagwell for @bfbsSitrep
As well as more recently highlighting the offensive part of air and missile 'defence'. telegraph.co.uk/news/2026/03…
And @Sidhart94353129 produced comprehensive analysis last year on the approach the UK could take to sequentially upgrading defences, given the enormous costs and need to prioritise.

Important discussion between @RolandOliphant and @c21st_sailor and @Sidhart94353129 of @RUSI_org on Iran The Latest. US military superiority over Iran does not mean there aren’t costs to this scale of operation.
