The IRA were terrorists, not soldiers. Their campaign of murder and bombing was not a war of equals, and no amount of historical revisionism will ever make it so. Labour’s Northern Ireland Troubles Bill risks allowing the IRA to rewrite history while British veterans face the prospect of being dragged through investigations decades after serving their country. Where is the accountability for the IRA? Where are the answers from the Irish Government about those who fled across the border, the support they received and the supply of weapons? I served in the British Army. My friend, Captain Robert Nairac, was murdered by the IRA. His body has never been recovered. His family still deserves to know what happened to him and where he lies. The IRA cannot be allowed to portray its campaign of terror as justified by the Good Friday Agreement. Peace does not retrospectively legitimise murder. There is no moral equivalence between terrorists and those who served to uphold the law. This Bill is a betrayal of our veterans and of families still waiting for the truth.

So that there is no ambiguity in my words. My position is clear. Even Maggie Oliver used the words ‘cover up’ to describe what took place on n Oldham. Had Burnham and other Labour Party politicians succeeded in their efforts, there would be no national inquiry. His Assurance Review would have drawn a line and that would have been the end of it. We continued the campaign when most had given up. It is now for Baroness Longfield to call the Prime Minister to testify for his actions whilst Greater Manchester Mayor and Police & Crime Commissioner. If Longfield fails to call Andy Burnham, then the National Inquiry itself will also be viewed as a cover up. I am in no doubt where this journey will end. When Reform's letters to postal voters in Portsmouth were ready to go out, two undercover ITV reporters were personally responsible for almost two hundred of them in the ward of Drayton and Farlington. Reform lost Drayton and Farlington by 24 votes. The same two men were responsible for delivering leaflets to half the ward of Baffins. Reform lost Baffins by 85 votes. These were men whose purpose was to infiltrate Reform UK and damage it. In two wards decided by a few dozen votes, we believe there are reasonable grounds to conclude that ITV altered the result of British elections. There is no precedent for this. It is certainly not journalism. We believe it to be criminal. We will hold ITV and its activists to account.

The Marine, believing him, took him for a drink. They spent hours talking about their 'shared' service. He shared deeply personal stories from the front line. He thought he was talking to a friend who had been through the same things. He has since learned that the man across the table was an actor with a hidden camera, sent by a television company to damage the party he volunteers for. Violated.
