In our new @masala_study analysis @JACCJournals, Lp(a) levels vary among disaggregated South Asian groups, but the association between Lp(a) levels and outcomes does not.

Part 1: A conversation with @MWilkinsonMD from UCSD on Lipoprotein(a). In this first part we talk about what is Lp(a), when to measure, and what should we do if the values are elevated (> 125 nmol/L or >50 mg/dL). In Part 2, we will talk about Horizon Lp(a) and landscape of therapeutics

On September 4, 2026, Novartis announced the topline results of its phase 3 Lp(a)HORIZON trial. Novartis shared that while pelacarsen lowered lipoprotein(a) [Lp(a)] levels, the trial failed to reduce the risk of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE). The full clinical trial results are not yet available.
Lp(a) remains an important and independent risk factor for ASCVD. Clinicians and patients should continue to measure Lp(a).
The Lp(a)HORIZON trial is the first of several clinical trials underway to test the impact of lowering Lp(a) on reducing MACE.
