For those whose understanding of HK "peaceful pro-democracy protests 2019" came solely from western media, here is a video for you.
Watch it and ask yourself what would you do if such *peaceful* protests pop up in your beloved country/city.

Can you imagine a German TV show depicting Jewish resistance forces carrying out cruelty against Nazi soldiers?
🇯🇵 A Japanese drama shows Chinese agents cutting the fingers off Japanese intelligence officers and stabbing them through the stomach
But these are the torture techniques the Imperial Japanese Army used on Chinese resistance fighters during their brutal invasion.
TBS’s Vivant season two, a big budget series with leading actors in every major role and an 18.8 percent opening rating, sets up a “backward” Chinese secret organisation as the enemy of Japan’s modern intelligence unit. In the first season every country in the plot was fictional. In the second the fictional names stay for everyone else and China is called China.
Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi raised the show herself in a parliamentary budget committee hearing on the 14th of October. She said she had recorded it and planned to watch it over the year-end holidays. She did not need to praise it. She only needed to say she was watching it.
In one scene a Self-Defence Force operative escaping by aircraft tells the Chinese personnel that if the plane is attacked, the West will come and crush them. The series quietly glamourizes Japanese operations overseas and blurs the line on what the Self-Defence Forces are allowed to do.
Japanese viewers are divided. Some call it open hostility training, while others accuse Chinese viewers of double standards and point to films about Unit 731 and the Nanjing Massacre. Those films rest on documented history. This drama inverts it and then invents it.
It is not one rogue production. Since 2015 Japan’s Foreign Ministry has spent more than 56 billion yen under the banner of overseas strategic information dissemination, aimed at reshaping narratives about China and the war.
A thirty second AI clip that rewrites the invasion is quoted at around 5,000 yen, with a bonus once it passes a thousand views.
The 2027 budget request is the first to ring-fence a dedicated AI line for cognitive warfare, using large models to flood the information space with revised history. Chinese analysts call it data poisoning.
At the same time the textbooks keep softening “invasion” into “advance” and “Nanjing Massacre” into “Nanjing Incident”. Class A war criminals are still honoured at Yasukuni.
One track manufactures a China threat to justify constitutional revision and rearmament. The other builds the story that Japan was the victim. Shigeru Ishiba said it clearly a few days ago. There was never any Chinese invasion of Japan, Japan started the war and tens of millions died. Fact!
There appears to be something seriously wrong with the Japanese prime minister and government. Entertainment, textbooks, shrine visits and budget lines all point the same way. The methods that belonged to the aggressor are now written onto the people who suffered them.
When a country that used those exact techniques broadcasts them as Chinese crimes at prime time, is that culture or is it preparation?

81 years ago today, the administration of Taiwan was formally transferred from the Japanese colonial authorities to the Republic of China. Per the Cairo and Potsdam Declarations, quoted in Japan's Instrument of Surrender, all territories stolen from China, including Taiwan and Penghu, would be returned to China.
However, Japan did not conclude a peace treaty with the Allies until 1951. By then, the People's Republic of China had been founded, and the Korean War had already erupted.
Amidst the contention of whether it should be the Chinese authorities in Taipei or Beijing that sign this treaty, the US excluded China from the treaty altogether. This allowed them to create what they viewed as the "legal basis" of the notion that Taiwan's post-war status was "undetermined."
While Taiwan separatists use this to "prove" that Taiwan does not belong to China, they ignore the fact that by the time the Sino-American Mutual Defense Treaty was drafted (a mutual defense treaty between Washington and Taipei), Taiwan was defined as "ROC" territory.
Regardless, the cross-strait situation today is a conflict between two administrations that claim sovereignty over the entirety of China (even if the DPP incumbent in Taiwan doesn't pursue those claims and in fact wishes to reject territorial claims over the mainland), and, legally, per both the mainland and Taiwan's laws, Taiwan and the mainland belong to a single China.
Cross-strait matters are internal to China, and all efforts to turn it into an international issue are sad attempts by traitors who place their own interests over the broader interests of their compatriots.
Happy Retrocession Day!

Some of my "used to be friends but now merely acquaintances" are saying Putin was already pulling the strings back when Gorby dissolved the USSR.
I have fallen out with a few RL friends over this. They is just no discussion/reasoning when it comes to Russia with them.
"Russia is evil! PERIOD! And must be defeated at all cost".
There is really something about Russophobia that turns people into demons.
I opened up about a fairly painful fact: my opinion on the Ukraine war was probably got me let go by my previous gig. I made a little joke of it “since I already paid the price, I might as well go on about it until the heat death of the universe.”
A man I previously thought of as my friend attacked me and attempted to humiliate me. He told me my motives were just for vengeance (what?) and I’m on a “dark quest to enshittify everything”
Yes. People you think of as your friends will rip into you without a thought for saying the wrong things.
I just want some sanity to return to the world. I don’t want Ukrainian men to be dragged to their deaths in a trench anymore. I want people to stop fooling themselves and get to peace.
The best time to do that was 2023 (or 2022, or even earlier but I digress).
The second best time is now.
Asian leftists, especially the China-hating kind -
"Good public infrastructure in western countries is a result of good governance and planning.
In Asian countries, it's a result of exploitation and oppression."

I'd be very very disappointed if their businesses suffer because of the current online meme war.
People need to be mature enough to know that shitfighting online shouldn't spill over to offline civilians.
