Check out this review by @MalladiLab on metabolic adaptations of #brainmetastasis, with a framework for understanding/targeting metabolic vulnerabilities. It's encouraging to see the recent progress, as I lost my grandfather to a brain met, and my dad to a primary brain tumor 👇

Metabolic adaptations of brain metastasis
buff.ly/WrODPJg
Brain🧠 metastases present a significant clinical challenge due to their high mortality and limited treatment options, driven by complex and dynamic metabolic adaptations that allow tumor cells to survive and grow within the brain’s unique microenvironment. These adaptations differ depending on the tumor's origin, genetic makeup, and ability to tolerate nutrient stress, with proliferative and dormant cells showing distinct metabolic profiles. Cancer cells rewire key metabolic pathways—such as glucose, fatty acid, and amino acid metabolism—not only for their own survival but also to manipulate brain-resident cells to support metastasis.
This metabolic heterogeneity reveals the limitations of uniform treatment strategies and highlights the need for tailored therapeutic approaches, which are the focus of emerging research in preventing and managing brain metastases.
