Brat summer is never ending! I’m proud to announce the release of my thesis project on BioRxiv: biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…
In this paper, we unravel the mysterious roles of RickA and Sca2 in cell-to-cell spread and pathogensis during infection with R. parkeri.

It was an honor to participate in this collective effort as a newcomer to #DevBio. Thanks @RogersLabUCD and @bradylabs for bringing together a wonderful community of supportive scientists.
Please check out our recent perspective paper, “Pluripotency of a founding field: rebranding developmental biology.” A huge thanks to the 50 scientists who traveled to California to discuss the future of #DevBio and who contributed to this paper! 1/ journals.biologists.com/dev/…

This summer I'm heading to UNC at Chapel Hill to join its faculty ranks as an Assistant Professor in the Departments of Cell Biology & Physiology and Neurology! My lab will study how genetics, aging, and environmental factors contribute to brain health and disease.

With last night’s “offer” from the UC I could not in good faith recommend incoming graduate students come here. My department currently pays 33% above the minimum in this proposal, and still I pay over 50% of my take home pay on rent alone each month. #FairUCNow

Beautiful work, as always, from @KimDSeed lab. Another episode in the never ending arms race between phages and their satellites. Really cool story!

Sometimes I get so jazzed about being a PhD student. Like I get paid to read?? to study my never-ending list of questions?? to drink my little drinks and to (try) and change the world?? Amazing.

Congrats to my former @Harvard bandmate @CarolynBertozzi on her @NobelPrize in chemistry! We won the Ivy League Battle of the Bands in 1986 with our rockin’ group ‘Bored Of Education’, with her on keyboards & me in spandex. news.stanford.edu/2022/10/05…

Teaching is the truest demonstration of our understanding of science, and hearing that as well as witnessing people getting excited about science is just the most amazing thing!!

Does anyone have resources about creating flexible and/or responsive syllabi? Or an example they'd be willing to share?

(1/3) Today, workers in the Department of Plant & Microbial Biology at @UCBerkeley marched on the Dean of the College of Natural Resources to deliver a letter demanding an end to bullying in the department. UC FINALLY took action in response to our collective strength.

People are talking about senior scientists and the state of academia, so I think it's time I share my overly honest tweetorial about my path in graduate school.
I am a #FirstGen college student from a rural area. Took a while to feel like I belonged, partly bc of faculty.

Recently (esp. w/ Buffalo, Uvalde, court decisions), it feels like something is clawing at the somewhat imperfect fabric of our communities.
But it's not just those events.
It's the continued pandemic risk for many as life returns to how it was in 2019.

Here’s something slightly different from me. Following the FDA’s decision to take another look at BPA, the people at @ConversationUS asked me why BPA is used in plastics to begin with. theconversation.com/what-is-…

Even though I was heavily recruited by University of Kentucky, I’ve dealt with lies, theft, sabotage, racism, sexism, and two miscarriages. God has blessed me w/ a baby in my belly that has made it to the 9th month in spite of UKs continuous harassment. #IKnowTheLordWillSeeMeThru

we discuss and vote as if we live in a democracy but it's not. We live in a necropolitical society and it's time we radicalize ourselves to face it as such.

SE Asians are underrepresented in STEM. The label 'Asian' boxes them out more. @UCSF disaggregates data to better reflect URM groups, but it needs to be more common. One challenge with being from an under-acknowledged URM group? Many don’t even know… npr.org/2021/12/12/105493351…
