We spent decades teaching people that cancer is mostly bad luck, bad genes, or bad habits.
Then you find out 2.3 million cases in a single year were attributable to infections.
Infections were responsible for 2.3 million new cancer cases in 2024, 12% of total global cases that year, a study has found.
The research found Helicobacter pylori to be the leading infectious cause of cancer

In anticipation of what to do if the NIH begins to evaporate as a viable mechanism to support American biomedical research Iโve written the two attached articles. One for young PhD scientists in @PLOSBiology, the other for MD/DO health professionals @BakerInstitute. These are admittedly imperfect papers since nothing can compensate for losses in NIH funds, but itโs a start. The good news is that you can still have a career in the U.S. but things wonโt be quite the same
