Several figures here aren’t federal results or NY-specific. The $472B combines US wide pledges: Micron's $250B is nationwide (NY site $100B) Anthropic's $50B covers TX and NY. The 48% murder drop is from NY's state run GIVE program (28 departments, Jan – May 2026). arkolith.com/news/news-micr… therepublic.com/?p=843020 governor.ny.gov/news/safer-str…

We often get asked what the best model is in GitHub Copilot. Our team spends an enormous amount of time optimizing the GitHub Copilot harness for the best, most token-efficient results. For the first time, we're publishing our data on what models perform best in Copilot: benchmarks.github.com

You're going to hear everyone talk about the best of 2026, but let's name the worst Windows 11 app of the year: none other than WhatsApp, which can use over 2GB of RAM just scrolling through chats! Meta killed the native Windows app in November 2025 and replaced it with a WebView2 wrapper. This app crosses 2GB while scrolling, with 10 processes running in Task Manager. - WhatsApp Desktop (current): Up to 2,157.8MB RAM while scrolling through chats, with 10 processes, 28.6% CPU usage, and 11.6MB/s disk activity. - Old native WhatsApp (UWP): Under 100MB idle, around 250MB while scrolling, and 316MB during video calls. - WhatsApp Web in Edge: Around 700MB for one account, with smoother scrolling than the desktop app in my testing. - Two WhatsApp Web accounts in Edge: 593.4MB and 562.8MB respectively, around 1.16GB combined. - WhatsApp Web installed as a Windows app via Edge: 579.6MB, with the actual memory usage hidden under Edge processes. - Telegram Desktop: 340.1MB with active groups receiving thousands of messages The difference is ridiculous. And it makes you wonder what it takes to build a proper app for a platform with billions of active devices. Meta has billions of dollars to spend on AI infrastructure, yet it cannot give Windows users a decent native WhatsApp app.

Harness + Opus 5.5 can finally go limitless, and Stanford research just showed why Same model. Different harness. Up to 6x performance gap. This system was built from 57+ papers on how to wrap a model so it actually gets better. Here's how it works in 6 steps: > Step 1: Mine your past sessions Every time you had to correct your agent, turn that fix into a rule. > Step 2: Delete what you can't prove If a rule doesn't improve results, it's just noise eating your context. > Step 3: Keep your instructions short One giant prompt fails. About 100 lines that point to other rules wins. > Step 4: Cut your tools Fewer, sharper tools mean higher success and fewer wasted tokens. > Step 5: Back rules up with scripts Prose is a suggestion. Hooks, linters and tests are guarantees. > Step 6: Garden your harness Prune stale rules and re-check everything after every big change. The best harnesses are small, evidence-based and constantly pruned. Opus 5.5 is the engine. The harness decides how far it goes. Save this before it gets buried ↓

Microsoft is finally giving Windows 11's modern native framework, WinUI, the attention it deserves, and you should soon start seeing more apps that not only run faster but also look great on Windows! WinUI's biggest update yet means resource-hungry WebView-based apps could finally stop taking center stage. Until now, developers building Windows apps with WinUI often had to rely on third-party libraries or build many basic components themselves, which made web frameworks like Electron an easier alternative. The new WinUI update brings TableView for sorting, filtering, and editing data, native Chart controls for financial dashboards and other visualizations, and InkCanvas and InkToolbar for handwriting and drawing. Microsoft's Chris Anderson admitted at Build 2026 that WinUI still has "a ton of feature gaps in the platform," and these additions finally start addressing some of them. I particularly like that Microsoft is bringing these controls into its own framework instead of expecting developers to depend on third-party libraries for basic functionality. And it's just the start. WinUI and Windows 11 will get even better in the coming months. Microsoft is not slowing down!

A couple weeks ago, we introduced Surface Laptop Ultra, including our new magnetic USB-C power connector. One of the things we spend a lot of time on in Surface is getting the feel of an interaction just right. With this connector, it's about how the magnets guide it into place, the sound and LED that let you know it's connected, and how easily it releases. The team built hundreds of prototypes, experimenting with magnet sizes, positions, forces, and cable alignment. One of my favorite details: moving the magnets just 0.7mm changed the experience from needing a final push to smoothly finding its way into place. Once we found the right feel, the next challenge was making it repeatable. The team selected a prototype that captured the experience we wanted, then worked through simulations and multiple manufacturing iterations to reproduce that feel in production. And it had to hold up. Thousands of connection cycles, off-axis pulls, and tests for the kinds of forces a cable might experience when someone trips over it. The cable has another useful detail: flip it around, and you can charge other USB-C devices, like your phone. A lot of work across industrial design, mechanical engineering, reliability, and manufacturing to make one small interaction feel right.

What a heartbreaking week it has been. Sir Patrick Stewart was a friend, a colleague, and a magnificent actor. From the stage to the bridge of the Enterprise, he brought intelligence, grace, and a deep sense of humanity to everything he did. Captain Picard stood for the best of us, and so did the man who played him. I was filled with affection and admiration for him and his work. My heart goes out to Sunny and his family. He will be deeply missed.
